Dolomites Retreat

23rd - 28th 6月 2018

A luxurious experience in the mountains at the crossroads of Europe.

The Dolomites are rich in history and have been crossed, re-crossed and fought over by the biggest powers in Europe, creating a fascinating and distinct culture. This Retreat is based at two carefully selected hotels on either side of the Italy-Austria border. They are the perfect launchpad to explore the enchanting landscapes of these mountains and the passes made famous by the Giro d’Italia – and to relax and treat yourself to the distinctive food and fine wines, fusing German and Italian influences, for which this region is renowned.

Arrival Day, Day 0

Tre Cime de Laverado

Arrive via Verona airport and transfer to our first hotel for an introductory spin including the quiet road up to the iconic peaks and the Refugio Auronzo, which formerly marked the boundary between Italy and Austria.

30 KM

1200 M

Day 1

Into Austria

Our longest day on the bike, we cross into Austria via the Passe Stalle taking in towering peaks and deep blue lakes. Once we have climbed the pass, the final 100k passes quickly as we hug rivers on some of the dedicated cycle paths that criss-cross the region.

Day 2

Kartitscher Sattel

A shorter ride as we go out-and-back to the Kartitscher Sattel, a gentle saddle between two valleys of quite different character. Heading up switchbacks to the top, you will be surrounded by peaceful meadows and forests before heading back to our base in Villabassa and a cooking class and dinner at an authentic mountain lodge.

67 KM

900 M

Day 3

San Cassiano

Today we ride one-way to our accommodation for the second part of the week, our carefully selected hotel in San Cassiano. On the way we will pass through the beautiful Lago di Misurina and Cortina d’Ampezzo before arriving in San Cassiano, in the shadow of the Sella massif.

66 KM

1800 M

Day 4

Sella Ronda

Taking a clockwise route around the dramatic Sella massif, you’ll cover four iconic passes before returning to San Cassiano. The Passo Sella, Passo Pordoi, Passo Campolongo and Passo Gardena have all featured many times in the Giro d’Italia and you may even see traces of recent races passing through.

Day 5

Departure day

The final day takes in some as-yet unridden roads in the valley before climbing over the stunning Passo Falzarengo before joining the final part of the Sella Ronda in the reverse direction to yesterday. From here we roll through Corvara on our way to our hotel and a celebration meal in San Cassiano.

Can I rent a bike?

We have a fleet of top-specification hire bikes available for rent on our European departures. They cost £50 per day. We ask that guests requiring a bike tell us as far as is possible in advance, so we can guarantee the right size is available, and also to send us your fit measurements, so our mechanics can set up the bike for you ready for the start of your trip. If you’re renting a bike you need to remember to bring your helmet, pedals and saddle to your trip start.

Can I bring a non-riding companion?

We welcome non-riding partners on our Retreats, but not on other trips.
