Description
The Peaked Merino Hat exists to keep the squally rain of autumn from stinging your face, the low sun of mid-winter from dazzling you, and the chill wind of early spring from freezing your skull. Winter training isn’t meant to be easy, but neither should it be a test of your survival skills. Made of an insulating and high-wicking merino wool with the addition of lightweight windproof fabric at the front, the pared back design is intended to fit comfortably under a helmet, keeping you warm without overheating. Ear covers keep the cold from taking hold of vulnerable ears, and a short peak is carried over from traditional summer cycling caps.

Works great, but may not be ideal for big heads
I’ve used this cap for about 400-500km.
Fits really well under my helmet (MET Idolo, size M, 52-59cm head circumference). I do get a line across my forehead after I’ve been wearing it for a while. It’s not uncomfortable or anything, but I look a little funny for about half and hour after my ride, so it’s probably not ideal for a commute ride to the office.
Keeps my ears toasty. I also occasionally wear it to run. I’ve worn it in the rain. The visor does a lovely job of keeping the water out of my eyes.
Great performer overall, but you may wanna look elsewhere if you have a big head or if the potential of a residual forehead line is a deal breaker for you.

Perfect Temperature regulator
I've been wearing this Merino cap on my daily dawn patrol rides in California. At the start, the ear flaps are down and the cap envelops my head is just the right amount of warmness! As the ride progresses, I simply flip up the ear portions to cool things down. In addition, the front face of the cap is made of nylon and provides ample wind protection. If you prefer the brim up, I find I can fit the brim of the hat in my helmet which makes the hat into more of a beanie. If you decide to take it off altogether, its packs down really small and weighs nothing in the back of your jersey. Key piece of kit; highly recommend!

Peaked Merino Hat
This one size fits all cap is a disappointment. The design is poor. The cut and the shape make it uncomfortable to wear. A very disappointing downgrade from the original one. After wearing the peaked merino hat, my head carries a deep indentation across the forehead. The coverage over my ears is nonexistent as the sides slide upwards above my ears providing no protection from cold temperatures, especially during the early morning commute to work. As the cap slides upwards, it creates an unflattering egg shape. The peak is useful during wet weather. However, it is a thinner, poor replica of the original, excellent winter hat which was comfortable and cosy.

Best piece of cycling kit I own
I have used this on my last two rides at 3 deg C and it has been utterly marvellous. Everything about it is perfect. The ear flap material is thin enough to not impede hearing but thick enough to stop my wingnut ears turning red. The windproof front patch works a treat and the wool just keeps things at an optimum temperature. Added bonus is the discrete Rapha branding which has allowed it to fly under the radar of my partner, who is acutely aware of how much I spend on cycling gear.

Maximum Luft!
This is my new favorite hat for Fall and soon to be Winter weather here in San Francisco. I used to wear a Rapha cap with Rapha Merino Headband underneath to get the same effect. When this peaked hat came out, I had to try it. The hat has very little bulk and fits perfectly under my helmet. It has a a smaller bill than a normal cap and like the merino arm and knee warmers, it's soft and feels oh so nice. The wind panel at the front really works and if your ears start to get steamy, you can fold the ear flaps up. The best part, it has major casual luft to impress your friends.

Perfect for Autumn
I already had a Rapha winter cap - ideal for really cold conditions, but too warm for those chilly autumn mornings when this lighter cap is perfect. With soft Merino wool to cover the ears if required and its windproof front panel it provides all the warmth that is required, yet is so compact that it fits under a helmet with room to spare. The peak is just large enough to extend over spectacles without obscuring vision whilst the 'one size' suits me perfectly. Very well designed and worthy of recommendation.

Great winter riding cap.
Keeps me warm in cold weather , I carry two caps if i warm up too much I swap to a cooler one to feel benefit for if I feel cold again/weather changes or to keep warm during a stop during a stop etc. Very good product. I live in Scotland and a vital piece of my wardrobe as I ride all year up and any weather.
On very cold rides it stays on my head for the whole ride. Keeps ears warm too, just right!
I thought I had lost my cap and replaced it within hours as I was lost without it! I think sums up how much I like the cap. I did find my other one , so now have two! :)

Very small/ uncomfortable/ fixed peak
I’ve recently exchanged this for the Pro Team Winter Hat which is awesome. This peaked hat however - not sure what it’s trying to be. First up it’s tiny and I haven’t got a particularly big head. Whilst this aids fitting under a helmet, the ear flaps are useless as don’t cover the full ear. What is worse is the fixed peak. I tend to alternate between peak up/ down depending on sunlight and rain - this peak is solid and therefore can’t be flipped up. I’ve loads of Rapha gear but this is a misfire in my opinion.

Does the cap / hat have provisions for wearing with glasses that are worn external to the helmet straps but need to go under the gap. Eg: glasses holes?

Does it fit ok under a helmet? I don't see any photo's of anyone actually wearing a helmet over the hat and it does look a bit bulky.
Yes, this will fit under a helmet. It's a merino wool and a wind resistant front panel so shouldn't be too bulky.

Which is warmer, the Pro Team Winter Hat or this? Is the difference significant?
Hi, they are both very comparable and use will be down to personal preference, I would say the Merino Peaked Hat will be more highly breathable and softer and perhaps just a bit cooler than the Pro Team Winter Hat.
