This statement has been published in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It sets out the steps taken by Rapha Racing Ltd (Rapha) during the year ending 31st January 2018 to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chain.
Rapha was established in 2004 as an online retail company, and has since expanded to include physical retail spaces known as Clubhouses. These can currently be found in 23 vibrant cycling locations around the world as well as temporary Pop-up stores and Mobile Clubhouses out on the road.
The Rapha brand has built a reputation for the highest possible quality and technically advanced production techniques alongside a healthy nod to nostalgia and the culture of road cycling. To achieve consistent high standards, Rapha works only with the best in the industry, delivering products ranging from vintage merino tracksuits to Pro Tour-winning racing apparel.
Today, Rapha is based in London, where it was founded and has regional offices in the US, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. In addition, Rapha has non-retail presence in Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany and Singapore.
Rapha understands the very real risk of force, fraud or coercion among employees in global business supply chains, and is committed to help combat modern slavery wherever possible.
Rapha’s Supply Chain
Rapha works with more than 25 suppliers globally, including in China, Vietnam, Lithuania, Portugal, Italy and the UK. The company insists its suppliers share its fundamental ethics and values and works closely with them to ensure high levels of working standards. Rapha has shared a working relationship with many suppliers since the formation of the company. Wherever possible, it encourages face to face communication between the product team and suppliers at all levels of seniority.
Rapha arranges frequent visits to supplier factories in order to assess the conditions of the facilities on an on-going basis, and to carry out regular checks and audits. New suppliers or factories are subject to a general assessment which includes health & safety checks, cleanliness, broken needle policies, timekeeping procedures and social facilities.
Rapha is also contacting suppliers directly to request specific information related to modern slavery, including details of their REACH Compliance Declaration.
Due to the high standards of workmanship and the reputation of the suppliers Rapha works with, the brand’s suppliers typically provide good working conditions for their employees. To ensure these high standards are being maintained, Rapha provides support and guidance to enable suppliers to make continuous improvements where necessary.
Rapha strives to provide its team with a solid understanding of modern slavery risks and guidance on what it means through the business and supply chain. This guidance is kept permanently under review to ensure processes are appropriate and meet the challenges presented by this global problem. To ensure Rapha is properly addressing these risks, we consult independent third party specialists to provide specific training on tackling modern slavery. To this end, the Rapha team recently received tailored training from the legal and strategy consultancy, Omnia Strategy LLP.
In the coming financial year, Rapha will continue to expand its auditing capabilities and the frequency of such audits with respect to its suppliers and factories.
