Women’s 100

In the year of lockdown and social distancing, riding together – online, on the road or otherwise – has never been more important. On 6th September 2020, the Women’s 100 returns with a rallying cry to female cyclists around the world: we might be riding solo, but never alone.

Now in its eighth year, the Women’s 100 challenges female riders around the world to come together to ride 100 kilometres. Usually, we undertake this challenge together, sharing the road and the burden as the kilometres tick over en route to our end goal of a century.

But this year has not been normal. While some of us are able to ride outside in groups once again, many of us, by choice or necessity, are still riding solo. But all is not lost. To conjure the collective spirit of the Women’s 100, we’ve enlisted ultra-endurance cyclist, writer and all-round riding inspiration Emily Chappell to introduce a simple concept she uses to keep riding, no matter what.

We are pleased to announce that the 2020 Women’s 100 will also be on Strava. Sign up below.

In her toughest moments on the bike, Emily thinks about the women who inspire her. Some of these women she knows well, others she has never met before. Some are cyclists, but others are activists, scientists and politicians. She imagines them riding along beside her, chivvying, challenging and encouraging her to keep going.

This is her invisible peloton. And, to help you ride this year’s Women’s 100, we are asking you who will be in yours?

Though some of us may be riding solo, this year’s Women’s 100 collection focuses on the spirit of togetherness. The exploded ‘W’ design is a nod to riders in time zones around the world who come together on our annual worldwide group ride. So if you are riding solo, wear something from the collection, and you won’t be riding alone.

6 September 2020

Where regulations allow, we still hope to organise Women’s 100 group rides. After all, the best rides are always those that are shared with others. For a sense of all the exciting Women’s 100 rides to come, take a look at our photo gallery from last year. From dawn Down Under to sunset in San Francisco, women from all walks of life came together to go the distance.

There are now more riders than ever before using Zwift to maintain their fitness and prepare for events. Ahead of the Women’s 100 on 6th September, we’ll be running a series of open group rides on Zwift to help you build up to the big day and meet other women taking on the challenge.
