What The Pros Are Wearing

Unlike many clothing suppliers, the kit we provide to our professional teams is exactly the same as that which is available to you. This July, as EF Education First and CANYON//SRAM race around France and Italy, we’ll keep you up to speed on what they’re wearing and why.

Rapha - What the pros are wearing

We work with the best riders in the world to make the world’s finest cycling kit. For over a decade we have sponsored teams at all levels across different disciplines, incorporating feedback from riders at the top of the sport.

At this year’s Tour, La Course and Giro Rosa, we want to give you insight into the rider feedback process. Our roadside reporters will speak to the riders of EF Education First and CANYON//SRAM about their Rapha kit to find out what they wear when, and why.

TIME TRIALS

After stage one surprised us with the first Dutchman to wear yellow in thirty years, Sunday’s team time trial required a complete change of equipment.

EF Education First wore a skinsuit with an upper design that’s exactly the same as our Pro Team Aero Jersey. Designed to save seconds, the jersey – just like the suit – offers an aerodynamic advantage for your fastest days on the bike.

On all but the hottest and most mountainous of stages the team will wear this jersey, because the aerodynamic arms race raging in today’s peloton is no longer limited to just time trials. The team’s main contender for the general classification, Rigoberto Urán, tells us what he likes about the jersey and why this advantage matters:

“I love the design. It’s the most beautiful design in the peloton. We’re super well turned out. The Aero Jersey is my favourite piece, because it fits perfectly and it’s very aerodynamic and efficient. So as well as being comfortable it helps you go a little bit faster.”

La Course is an ever-changing contest. Last year saw the women’s peloton take to the high Alps. This year, they do battle on an undulating course around Pau in France’s southwest.

MOUNTAINS

As the Tour hits the high mountains for the first time, the riders’ choice of clothing changes. Lightweight jerseys save on weight and prevent overheating, while gilets and arm warmers provide extra warmth on descents.

rest day

Few events push their participants to such lengths that they require mid-race recovery. The Tour’s rest days, or jours sans, provide a welcome respite from the racing.
