Summits with the Rapha Cycling Club are the highlight of our members’ riding calendars. Together, we descend on the world’s greatest cycling destinations to explore roads seldom ridden in stunning mountain settings.
RCC Summit Sierra Nevada 11-14 May 2018
Travel With The World' Finest Cycling Club01 February 2018
The RCC Summit Sierra Nevada takes place in one of the most alluring cycling destinations in the world. Through palms and pines to snow-lined climbs, the region’s roads are blissfully quiet and silky smooth. From the heights of the Pico de Veleta at the summit of Europe’s highest paved road to routes through the almond tree groves of Granada, there are roads for all riders.
New for 2018
Whilst the Granada Palace Hotel will host the Summit, RCC members will now have the option to book without accomodation, allowing you to tailor make your trip to Andalusia or even extend it. Whether you’d like to add in a visit to Granada’s spectacular Moorish palace, the Alhambra or explore more of the region’s roads, the RCC Summit fits perfectly into your plans.
We Ride Together
Designed by the Rapha Travel team to cater for all riding abilities, routes of varying difficulty are planned each day. The length and intensity of your ride is up to you and no club run is complete without a coffee stop so all routes include the best possible stops for drinks and lunch. Each ride is led by a local expert and fully supported and clubmates are expected to assist each other on the road.
Rest and Relaxation
These weekends are the highlight of the club calendar but, with a full programme of off-bike events, riding is only part of the plan. Improve your technique on a riding skills workshop, recover for the next day with a post-ride massage and get a sneak peek at upcoming products with Rapha’s product team. Surrounded by clubmates and with a stunning mountain backdrop, the Summit also provides the perfect setting to relax and unwind.
Exclusive RCC Summit Kit
The club is united by our distinctive black, pink and grey Rapha kit, exclusively available to members. Better still, riders at each RCC Summit receive an exclusive jersey with a twist on the standard RCC colours - a little memento of your Andalusian adventure.
To kickstart the weekend’s riding, we’ve designed a choice of two meandering loops through the hills to loosen the legs on Friday afternoon. Roll through quiet and remote villages, admiring the traditional architecture and superb views of Granada before descending back into town.
The longer ride will cover around 100 km en route to the clear waters of the Bermejales reservoir where you can take a refreshing dip ahead of the ride back home. The shorter route follows quiet roads at a sociable pace as we tour the various residences of renowned Spanish poet, García Lorca.
For those in search of a Queen stage, today’s ride to the summit of Pico de Veleta is a stiff challenge and a true test of your climbing legs. Topping out at well over 3000 metres, the views from the summit are breathtaking. Alternatively, set out to the south towards the Mediterranean for a shorter ride and a visit to a traditional olive oil mill.
A pair of morning rides in the hills and almond groves around Granada, explore yet more new roads and perfectly bookend your trip.
