Comfort of a jersey, protection of a jacket

Protecting against wind chill is the first step for any winter cyclist. Made using a windproof fabric on the chest, shoulders and arm panels, the Classic Winter Windblock Jersey is ideal for those cooler weekend rides and chilly training sessions. All the internal seams are pressed and bonded to provide further protection against the wind, while a breathable merino blend helps to keep your temperature regulated when working hard. A drawcord with adjusters on each side makes the hem of the jersey adjustable to lock in heat, and reflective tabs on the wrists and pockets provide visibility in darker conditions. Classic styling meets winter versatility.

Reviews

“If what you want for winter cycling is a thermal long sleeve jersey with the cosy insulation and softness of merino wool, backed up by fully windproof front-facing panels for providing a barrier against windchill, then look no further than the Rapha Winter Windblock Jersey. It sure is expensive but it's a superbly made luxurious winter jersey.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jersey for winter riding I've worn this every day on my bike in temperatures below freezing, and those days when it starts very cold and warms up. It's kept me at the perfect temperature every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb - Does everything! One of my favourite and best purchases! Covers a multitude of riding conditions, from minus temps to cold and windy, even showery days. Only felt the need to wear a light base layer underneath as once on the move the heat retention is superb. Great fit - feels nice - looks good. My new best friend!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really does the job Have been out just a couple of times, once below freezing and very windy, where it was just warm enough with a base layer, and once at about 4 degrees where it was perfect. Only comment is that it is shorter than other Rapha jerseys and the base layer - so the base layer hangs down below the jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost Too Good Brought this to compliment my winter wardrobe and Windblock couldn't be a more accurate description. Have done several rides with the temperature close to zero degrees with a nasty chilly wind and this jersey has kept me incredibly warm. The first time I paired it with a merino base layer and was too hot!! Even on the coldest of days I'm only using a summer base layer under it and still very warm and cosy when riding. Got caught out in rain and it kept me dry, moisture doesn't escape easily so sweat does build up especially when climbing but this is a small price to pay to avoid the wind chill.

What fit regime is this intended to be in? Felt more 'Pro' than 'Core' or 'Brevet'

Asked by: Glass
This fit is part of our Classic Range which will not be as tight as a Pro Team garment but will have a fitted cut. It will have a tight fit as this is designed to keep out the wind and other colder elements.

Do I get this or the brevet windblock jersey? I get hot on rides so thought this may limit me to only a couple of months whereas the brevet may be better in the spring/autumn and with a base layer may be as effective in winter??

Asked by: JamieGobell
Hi Jamie, this jacket will be a great piece of kit for high tempo winter rides. The Brevet Windblock is similar but different and thinner material at the back will require different layering but it will be a great piece of kit for Spring and Autumn riding.

why would one buy this instead of the pro team soft shell?

Asked by: Sxw29
This would depend on the nature and style of riding that was being done. The Pro Team range is used for riding in high intensity with a heightened body temperature. This product would be slightly more thicker but as we all regulate temperature differently it is hard to advice on the temperature range for individuals and differing exertion levels will also affect its properties.

Is it substantially the same as the classic winter jersey and are there front vents?

Asked by: ZebL
This garment is designed to block wind and chill as its primary function. It can be used on cooler weekend rides and chilly training sessions. There are no front vents but whilst the internal seams are pressed and bonded to provide further protection against the wind, while a breathable merino blend helps to keep your temperature regulated when working hard.

Is this the next version of the old winter jersey? If yes does this mean that it has the same thickness, warmth with improved windblocking?

Asked by: matenadasdii

How this is this compared to the Brevet Windblock Jersey?

Asked by: Patch
The Brevet collection is designed for those on long distance cycling and touring and therefore has features suitable for that style of riding including new quick-drying, lightweight merino fabric for comfort in the heat and reflective and hi-vis Brevet stripes on front and back to aid visibility in low-light. The Classic is a similarly relaxed fit garment but its features are designed more for one day riding and is ideal for those cooler weekend rides and chilly training sessions. All the internal seams are pressed and bonded to provide further protection against the wind, while a breathable merino blend helps to keep your temperature regulated when working hard.
