A highly technical wet-weather race jacket

The research and development process for the Pro Team Softshell Jacket was the most challenging and intensive of any Rapha product. The result is the most advanced race-ready jacket in the world. This is a jacket for riders who seek the highest levels of performance in wet conditions, when a race cape would be too constricting and a jersey too exposed to the elements.

The fabric is an extension of Rapha's softshell concept, incorporating two thin layers, separated by a membrane, to create a fabric that is breathable, highly water resistant, insulating, but retains a soft and comfortable feel against the skin. The seams are fully taped, and laser cut ventilation holes under the arms allows air to circulate.

The fit is in line with the Pro Team collection, with a slim and close fit suited to a low riding position.

Reviews:

‟Rapha have developed a worthy alternative to the popular Gabba with a fabric that offers a great balance of protection and breathability, making it a useful three-seasons top. It's a big chunk of cash, and both the Castelli Gabba and Parentini Mossa are cheaper, but in my opinion the Pro Team Softshell just nudges both in performance, fit and features.”
road.cc

‟The Rapha Pro Team Softshell is a superbly versatile garment, currently pretty much state of the art as regards foul weather cycle clothing. Rather than making every effort to be specifically waterproof or breathable, it combines the best of both aspects to make a deliberate stab at keeping the rider comfortable and all but oblivious to any malevolent elements encountered along the way.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely versatile jacket Purchased this jacket just as winter started and its been worn every week. Can be used with a base layer or with a mid and a base if very chilly. Its not a rain jacket but once re-proofed, it does a good enough job of keeping out the water out .. I love the design, fit and look of the jacket too ... the fit is 'race-fit' so not much room for anything bulky underneath. As the website states, its really well suited to higher tempo rides but I use it for training and longer club rides. Great piece of kit, and certainly getting more use than a rain jacket would!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely race cut jacket When I first looked at this jacket I thought this looks so small, i.e. short and narrow in the body and arms, there was no way this would fit and be comfortable, but I put it on, got into the various cycling positions and I was amazed that it not only fit but it was comfortable. The fabric stretches nicely and it's not bulky like some other brand soft shell cycling jackets. It is definitely a race cut, slim fitting, no extra fabric. I would imagine if someone didn't want a race cut feel or then get a size larger than usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible, form-fitting jacket Beautifully made in Portugal and superbly styled, and an excellent fit (I'm 5'8" and 140 lbs - small is perfect). The jacket is form-fitting, so expect it to be tight, particularly around the arms. Good protection against rain, and great wind protection. I run cold, but this will take me down to 5 degrees with a couple of base layers. The wipe clean panel on the rear is a neat touch. The only downside it road dirt that finds its way into the seams around it is hard to remove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't let the tight fit fool you I ordered this jacket several weeks ago and was thrilled to try on this handsome garment as soon as it arrived. The fit was tight and I could hardly close the zipper. The fit around the abdomen was short and around the shoulders were also uncomfortably tight. I was very disappointed that I needed to exchange it for a different size, only to find the next size up were sold out. Ugh... After reading AndrewB's review which suggested the same fitting experience I had, I was curios and decided to take the jacket out of the return bag and take it for a spin. It was 43F this morning and I only have the merino mesh as the base layer. This jacket fitted like second skin as soon as I took off on the bike. The jacket blocked cold wind and kept me warm. At the same time it is very breathable and does not allow me to overheat either. This jacket is excellent for cold winter rides. Glad the wait is over for that perfect jacket. Can't wait to see how it performs in light rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from On par with the Gabba.. Bought this after reading reviews saying it was as good if not better than the Castelli Gabba, with owning a Gabba jersey and knowing how good they are, had to try this!! It lives up to its reputation, it's definitely up there. Only negative is, if you wear it on a day when it's warm you will cook. The advantage the Gabba has (the version I have) is that there are front zip vents to keep you cool. Worn it a couple of the more mild days recently and found it to much. When it's been colder it's superb. The rear spray panel on the jacket is a nice touch too, keeps your lower back dry. Another thing I found is that the soft shell material doesn't have as much give as the conventional pro team jacket so be careful with sizing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome fit and very High Quality I have needed a Jacket to use on days when it is either threatening to rain and simply rainy and cold. This Jacket fits the bill. I ordered on size up as I do for all Pro team Jackets and the fit is spot on.

Can this jacket reasonably be worn as a jersey? Is the interior (against the skin) a soft fabric or more of a rubber film?

Asked by: Zdcr
Hi, although designed and intended to be worn as a jacket it could be worn as a jersey as the interior fabric has a soft and comfortable feel against the skin.

Which part of the jacket is reflective and what's best to wear underneath it?

Asked by: dt7203
The Pro Team Softshell does have high visibility markings but these are not truly reflective. We suggest a merino base layer is worn under the jacket.
