How can I care for my training kit to make sure it lasts an entire season?
Because the training kit is used more frequently than the race kit, it needs to handle constant washing. To maintain the elasticity and wicking performance, we recommend washing at 30°C with a gentle detergent. Avoid fabric softeners at all costs, as they clog the technical fibres and reduce breathability. Always air-dry your kit; the high heat of a tumble dryer can damage the elastic grippers and logos. If you do suffer a spill during a session, remember that our Free Repair Service extends to the training range to help keep your kit in rotation.
Why is "compression" mentioned so often in training apparel?
Many training shorts and jerseys feature a compressive fit. This isn't just for aerodynamics; a snug fit helps support your muscles during repetitive movements, which can reduce muscle vibration and fatigue over long distances. It also ensures that the fabric stays in constant contact with your skin, which is essential for pulling sweat away quickly so you don't feel damp or chilled during high-intensity intervals.
Why does the Rapha Pro Team Training Jersey use different fabrics on the front and back?
To optimise your body's microclimate during high-effort intervals. The front and sleeves are usually made from a lightweight, open-weave fabric that allows air to pass through and cool your core. The rear is often a denser-knit fabric that provides structure and UV protection, while also preventing the pocket sag that occurs when you carry spares, a phone, and nutrition for a long ride. This "zonal" approach ensures the jersey remains comfortable and aerodynamic even when you’re pushing your limits in the heat.
How should training kit fit when I’m standing up?
Performance training kit is tailored for the "on-bike" position. This means it might feel a little tight across the chest or short at the front when you’re standing straight. This is intentional. Once you lean forward into the riding position, the fabric smooths out, preventing the bunching or zipper-bulge that occurs with standard casual wear. When trying on training gear, it’s always a good idea to mimic your riding posture to get a true sense of the fit.
Is the fit of the Rapha Training range the same as the Classic range?
No. The Training range sits within the Pro Team family, which features a "Race Fit." This means it is cut shorter at the front to prevent bunching when you’re low in the drops and is significantly more form-fitting than our Classic or Core collections. If you are used to the more relaxed, "regular" fit of our Classic range, you may find the Training kit feels tighter; we recommend checking the size guide or considering sizing up if you prefer a less compressive feel.
