Warmth for winter riders

Fleece-backed shorts have long been a kit bag essential for pros who find themselves racing and training in cold conditions through the early and late season. Worn with leg or knee warmers, they offer incredible versatility and an unrestricted range of movement, alongside essential protection from the cold.

Building on the success of our popular Pro Team Thermal Bib Shorts, this updated version provides even greater comfort and improved protection against the elements. Made of the same windproof and water-resistant front panels as our Pro Team Winter Tights, the shorts have a membrane inserted to help keep water out, and a fleecy inner that wicks away sweat better and provides a warm feel on skin.

The shorts have the same size-specific dual density pad as the Pro Team Bib Shorts II, perforated to hold less water for more comfort on wet rides, and shaped for riding on the rivet with more support for your seat bone. With a slightly longer leg than the Pro Team Bibs II, and a higher cut on the bibs to stop drafts creeping up inside your jacket, these are perfect bib shorts for winter riding.

FEATURES

  • Windproof and highly-water resistant fabric designed for winter riding
  • Size-specific dual-density chamois that changes thickness by size
  • Perforated pad holds less water for more comfort on wet rides
  • Reflective piping on both sides of the leg for visibility
  • Short gripper pairs perfectly with leg and knee warmers
  • Long length for extra coverage
  • Shorts fabric sits 4cm higher than before, for extra warmth around the midriff
  • Breathable mesh back panel
  • Seams positioned for maximum comfort
  • Rapha Pro Team logos on each leg

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weatherproof bib with excellent fit I have been using these bibs in all kinds of foul winter. And I can honestly say they excel in all of them. They are water repellant and manage to keep you warm in the places where needed - even during cold winds. And as always with Rapha, a wonderful fit and truly impressive finish. 10/10 would buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable for long rides Having worn these bibs on several 3-5 hour rides in winter weather (light rain, 0 - 10*C) I'm very happy with my purchase. The shorts stay put and are comfortable after 100k+ on the bike. I'd have to switch to full tights any lower than 30F/0C, but they work for relatively cold days. Sizing is pretty spot on, I'm at 5'6" 140lbs and the small fits like a glove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bib shorts These are superbly made bib shorts. The materials are different to the pro shorts and at first I thought the sizing was smaller. I take a large in the pro shorts and these thermal pro shorts are large and felt tighter round the thighs when putting on but once on they are very comfortable. I think the material isn't as stretchy as the normal pro shorts (probably due to them being thicker and wind blocking). Only worn on a couple of rides but delighted with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm n dry! Definitely warm, definitely dry, definitely brilliant! Exceeded all expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality kit I purchased these bibs 2 weeks ago and have now worn them twice. I am a slim 181cm bloke weighing in at 85kg, medium has been a perfect fit, with no hedging on going up 1 or 2 other brands to get the right fit. Two words describe this kit. Quality, Comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice improvement over the old ones I had the old ones, and these are a nice improvement. The straps are thinner and wider and less irritating. They seem slightly warmer than the old ones. The elastic part on the legs is thin, like others have said, but it holds on my legs just fine - and I don't have huge legs. I'm a size 33 pants and I got the large.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely brilliant bad weather shorts These are fantastic shorts, I used them on a recent 2 hour snowy/sleety/rainy ride in 1 degree Celsius with leg warmers and they worked brilliantly. They kept me warm with the rain water just running off, keeping me dry for the full 2 hours. I guess that this was an extreme test but if they can come through that I'll not hesitate to wear them when the weather turns a bit nasty.

How does the sizing compare to classic bib shorts? I wear a large in them.

Asked by: PatrickMH92
Hi, the Pro Team range is as a rule of thumb slightly more of a race fit which is tighter in compression. Though we do advise you to try in your usual size and should you need to exchange or refund, we have a 90 days return period for new/unused garments with tags and in saleable condition.

I wear small/long in the pro team normal shorts.  Would I size up for these given the thicker material/shorter fit?

Asked by: Xosi
These shorts are longer in standard length than the Pro Team Bib Shorts II, so selecting your normal sizing would be most appropriate

Rain at the week did penetrate my ProTeam bib winter tight knees and seat but my Shadow jersey kept the rain out. Would the new shorts be similar in water repellency to the Shadow jersey that kept me dry or ProTeam team bib tights which did not?

Asked by: BarkerD
These Bib Shorts are highly Water Resistant but a constant rainfall will allow water to go through. The Shadow collection, by contrast, are Waterproof and are coated with a water-repellent layer.

Is it just the front panels that are water repellent or is it the whole circumfrance around the leg, like the shadow bibs?

Asked by: Harveylolx
Hi, the wind and water replant panels are the ones that you see structured all around the leg and up to the hips or what you can see would be the most exposed to the elements. These show up on the current images as the slightly darker panels.

How do the Pro Team Thermal Bib Shorts II differ from the Pro Team Shadow Bib shorts, in terms of performance: Warmth and water resistance? Are the shorts cut the same? Same length etc.? I ride in southern England all year round. What's best?

Asked by: MOO5E
Hi, both these shorts are comparable in both wind and water resistance and also in fit. You may find the Pro Team Shadow Bib shorts have a stronger compression feel.

Hi, can also these shorts be used during the summer when it is not too hot?

Asked by: Jack41
You could still use these shorts on most days in the UK and colder areas in the Summer in all but the hottest temperatures

How does one answer the call of nature with the high waist cut.

Asked by: JayC
The front panel has enough give to answer 'on the road' calls of nature without need to fully disrobe
