Description

The Rapha Merino Hat is made from a luxury merino wool to keep your head warm and comfortable even in the harshest winter conditions. The hat has a small amount of nylon woven into the fabric to make it more durable and to ensure a snug fit. The natural fibre of merino wicks sweat away from the head and the fabric is quick drying, even after a downpour.

The hat is designed to be worn with or without a helmet and the two-inch earband can be folded up to help regulate body temperature, as well as to provide some stylish versatility. The hat is finished with a black Rapha logo tab.

I've been wearing the black/red original version of this merino hat for many years in every conceivable seasonal condition (cycling and everyday life) and its the most useful Rapha product I own. It has lasted brilliantly with a little care when washing (30º machine and avoiding exposed velcro/zips). Its the hat that goes everywhere with me, just in case! This new one is the same quality and fit, only downside is it's not truly reversible (as the old hat is) as the small inner seam is exposed and doesn't sit flat. Apart from that a brilliant product you won't regret owning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter Essential I’ve been using this for 38-50 degree (F) rides in Northern California. It takes the bite out of the cold start of my ride and doesn’t get heavy or oppressive when the weather/I warm up. I only notice it in a good way otherwise it’s barely noticeable and very comfortable. Easily fits under helmet and looks good after the ride. I did have to take it off once and stuff it in my jersey pocket during a strenuous climb though I am happy I had it on the chilly downhill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you only buy one piece of Rapha kit - buy this! This is one of 3 of these hats I have. It is superb at keeping your head lovely and warm no matter how cold it is. Sits perfectly under the helmet, covers the ears and is wonderfully soft thanks to the merino woo, from which it is made. As I cycle pretty much everywhere, i NEVER leave home in winter without one. Also use it for running too and it works well wicking moisture away from the head whilst keeping it warm. In short a simple marvellous product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from One Size does NOT fit all The bane of my existence when ordering headgear is "one size fits all". Well it doesnt fit my big head. It barely covers half my ears. The hat itself appears to be excellent quality merino wool, lightweight, thin, which would work well under a helmet. It just doesn't fit me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it Bought this for everyday use as I was looking for a small hat to through into the bag. It folds nice and compact so you can put it into your pocket when you're out and about. The thread quality is superb, similar to what you have on the base layers or under gloves. I have had cashmere and alpaca hats and none with such thin threading. It is still performant though, and been keeping my balding head warm at -5°C. And the feel is oh so comfortable, absolutely itch-free. Size wise I have a small head and ordered S/M, which fits. A propos fit, it remains a cycling hat so while it looks ok on the street, it sits tight on the head with no room on top, just so you know. I don't see how it is reversible though (as in the description), the inside has seams that show. And don't fold it up unless you intend to sport a sailor look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece I haven't even worn this riding yet, but have been using it as my daily hat and also have done a couple of cold weather hikes with it. It feels so light on my head and very surprising how warm it keeps my noggin. Wore it in the Adirondack Mountains on a long hike, ~15F outside and it was perfect. Looking forward to eventually wearing it on the bike, it is nice and thin so should fit well under my helmet.

It fits under a helmet perfectly and adds just the right level of mofort and warmth. It wicks sweat well and as it's merino, it maintains body heat quite well even when wet. it is well constructed and the fabric is great quality in terms of handfeel and durability. These qualities make this a great value piece of kit, love it.

This hat doesn't always cover all ears. It should cover at least the top of the ears though.

Depending on the size of your head, it should cover nearly the whole ear. Some earlobe might stick out.

Most cycling caps and hats don't fit my head. So I can't trust the "one size fits all" sizing comment. Do you know if this would fit someone with a 61-62 cm head circumference?

Hi, the merino construction of this hat means it has a high degree of stretch and should accommodate your head size. As always we do have a free 90 day returns policy if needed.
