Classic cycling cap commemorating Tour of Italy’s highest point

In 1965, the organisers of Italy’s most celebrated race inaugurated a prize in Il Campionissimo’s honour. The highest point passed by the race each year is designated the ‘Cima Coppi’, and the first rider over it receives a special prize. And no passo is higher than the 2,758m Passo dello Stelvio. Coppi, who ravished post-war Italy both with his movie-star looks and on-the-bike style, was the first man to scale the monstrous climb in its first appearance in the race, in 1953; he will therefore eternally be the man to beat, if only in spirit.
