Fine merino for all-day cycling comfort

Any experienced cyclist knows the value of a good base layer. It will keep you cool on scorching hot cols in July and warm on freezing descents in January. A good base layer helps regulate body temperature whatever the weather, transfering moisture from the skin and proving a vital aid to performance.

Rapha base layers are made from 100% merino wool and are naturally anti-bacterial and odour resistant. Wicking moisture vapour extremely quickly, they are soft on the skin and itch free.

Rapha's merino base layers come in three styles; sleeveless, short and long sleeve. All the seams have flatlock stitching so they won't chafe and are positioned behind the shoulders to avoid bag or bib straps rubbing while cycling. The base layers are close fitting and cut long at the back for a better fit on the bike.

"Base layers are incredibly important in winter to help regulate the body's temperature, but they also keep the body dry without it getting too hot. Rapha's base layer does this superbly, something that the mention of wool might normally have you doubting."
- Cycling Weekly

"There's a soft pliability to Rapha's wool that makes it a joy to wear as a layer against the skin. The wicking is outstanding. It's the best base layer I've ever worn [and] was equally pleasurable at both ends of the temperature spectrum."
- Competitive Cyclist

"Despite having so much cool Rapha clothing to choose from, my absolute favourite is the merino wool undervest. I practically live in those things. Whether it's training, sleeping or just chilling out around the house."
- Kristian House, 2009 British National Road Race Champion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not much to flaw! Excellent item of kit. Keeps your torso warm on cool rides but, more importantly (I prefer to climb), exellent on warm day rides (even 30+deg days) when descending it's keeps your core from cooling as sweat evaporates. Was hesitant to wear a wool base layer on a hot day but has turned out to be one of my best assets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Highly recommended. I've worn merino jerseys for years but never had a reasonable merino base layer to use on cold mornings. This sleeveless merino base layer does the trick. And on hot days, it can be used on its own. Sleek, comfortable, and sized just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit! I bought this base layer to replace one of my well-worn Rapha tanks. Rapha, you have outdone yourselves! The quality is better than ever (I like the weight of the merino), and the fit is perfect. (Just so you know...I do NOT cycle, other than to enjoy a cruise or a run to the shops. The fact that your product is merino had my hooked from the first piece I bought! As a woman who weight-trains I find the men's cut fits my build better than the closer cut women's sizes.)

Why the chest ranges of the size chart is totally different from the chart for jerseys? 91~99cm chest is M size in the chart for jerseys. but in the chart for base layer, 91~99cm chest is S. it's so confusing. How can I choose proper Rapha size?

Asked by: Fury
We recommend that you go down a size in Baselayers so that they can manage temperature better
