No, the new grippers are not an improvement.
For some of us, the search for a pair of bibs that rate, "best I've ever worn", is an expensive and tiresome chore. The Classic Bib is my "best ever", but then, the new leg grippers. Not an improvement. They are too loose around the legs, almost like bell bottoms if you know what those are, and have to be pulled up to a point that they don't fit properly. Everything else about the bibs is perfect, except the leg gripper. Please, no more "improvements".

Better than expected
I have the previous models and i hasitated to buy this one because of the negative reviews. I am positively surprised. Fit is perfect i am 197cm and 110kg and bought the xl. No complains about the grippers and for me they are spot on for a slender biker with tinier legs it could be a bit wide but then you can buy a pro team. All the negative reviewers seem to forget that this is classic with a relaxed fit and no pro team. The shoulder straps are better than the previous and they have a pleasant more centre fit on the chest. So for people with a bigger posture these are the best you can get for relaxed riding. Chamois, details and quality is great

Disappointed - great bib shorts spoilt by grippers
Great bibs - but the new gripper is a let down. I have owned a number of these over the years and they are my favourites. Having lost some weight I needed a smaller pair. I just thought it was me when the bibs fit perfectly except for the leg gripper which look ridiculous as they do not hug the leg at all. My wife takes the mickey out of me every time I go out in them. This would put me off buying again in the future so I do hope Rapha take on board customers comments. The rest of the fit is spot on as usual.

Sizing is not the same
Sizing has changed compared to last year. Last year I bought a perfect fitting XL - my go to bib for every ride. So I thought let's add another one. However, this year the XL is way too loose at the legs. Changed it for an L and that one was too tight. Why change something that was good?

Rare miss on my latest pair of classic bibs
My first two pairs of the classic bib shorts are nothing short of wonderful - my all time favorite bibs. So comfortable on long rides, and they last and last! Unfortunately, the redesigned leg grippers on the most recent (spring 2021) pair I purchased were too loose on the leg and gapped open, even though the adjacent leg fabric was happily snug on my thighs. I'm hopeful that Rapha quickly remedies this rare miss.

The Newer Classic Style Doesn't Fit Me
Alas, these newer Classic bib shorts do not fit me. I have four pair of Rapha's Classic bibs size large from several years ago that fit wonderfully well. This newer version, though the same size, has loose leg openings while the straps cut into my shoulders. A size medium may resolve the loose leg issue but would be too tight through the torso.

I need longer legs
Been a while since I last bought a pair of Classic Bib Shorts but I ordered the same size as last time. The sizing seems to have remained the same except the leg gripper is significantly wider and now the leg length is longer. The size I ordered is medium and I am 5'9" with a 32 inch inside leg if that helps. But now the legs are almost to my knees and loose in the area of the gripper when standing. Don't get me wrong they are fine on the bike, just. Just look poorly fitting when stood in the cafe ordering your coffee. Doubt the small would be long enough in the body.

how tall do you have to be?
outstanding... my fourth or fifth classic bib shorts from rapha. they're as good as ever with one caveat - i've worn the same size for years (XL), but the newest edition has substantially longer legs than past editions of the classic bib short. I'm very tall and particularly long-legged, but these are truly 1 1/2" longer than i'd like. need to roll them up a little.

Questionable Stitching Quality.
Its comfy and fits well. The size is small and I am 5’6. Theres a thread along the inner thigh area that came undone on my very first ride (about 30 km). I returned the shorts and ordered another one that was the same size but different colour. I took another ride with the second shorts and the threading along the thigh area came undone again. The fact that the stitching became loose in the same area with two different shorts makes me doubt the stitching quality. Both rides were about 30km long and I don’t try to abuse the shorts. I bike at 15-20km/hour. The fit is comfy but it bothered me that the stitching/threading became loose TWICE. You pay a lot for these shorts so I do expect higher quality.

Ruined a very good thing
Oh no Rapha destroyed their perfectly good bibs with those horrible power bands and leg grippers. Legs are longer than previous version and the power bands remain loose/flappy while riding. Uppers are unchanged and therefore perfect.

Not so grippy grippers
Normally wear large (35"waist).....these beautiful shorts the right size...except the funky new leg grippers are very loose....even with my stocky thighs. If you have skinny legs expect them to look like Bermuda shorts. Great technology, continual improvement etc.....but disappointing in a $300 bib short. Of course once this becomes apparent, the shorts have been ridden in and no return for smaller size.

Bulky leg gripper
Style is 10/10, but I couldn’t get over the leg gripper on these. It’s very thick and very noticeable. I like kit that kind of disappears on the body and you forget you’re wearing it, I was never not fully aware of the leg grippers on these and never found a sweet spot. YMMV, but I’d recommend the pro team or core bib shorts over these any day.

Were great, but now awful bib shorts
I have been using these shorts very happily for several years. So I ordered a new pair and they were totally different, so loose on my legs they were like mountain bike shorts. Sent them back, very unhappy, why did they have to screw up these previously great bibshorts?

Not the same fit as previous models
The size change and leg gripper change made these bib shorts unwearable for me. I ordered my normal size, I already own two pairs in the same size. These new bibs fit me almost one size larger causing the chamois to move and chaff. The leg gripper at the bottom is about 1-1 1/2”wider material and flaps in the wind. The materials still feels like the same great quality. I recommend going one size smaller.

So disappointed
Very disappointed. These are the 5th pair of Rapha nicks I’ve purchased. The first four were brilliant. The current ones are terrible. They appear to have changed the design.The shoulder straps are tight, they give me testicular pain(!), and the elastic around the lower thigh is loose. A good mate has had similar problems. I won’t be getting Rapha nicks again until I’m confident they’ve gone back to the previous design.

Still good, but a step back from the prior version
These short are great, but not as good as the 2021 version. They changed the leg grippers from 1" to 2" and they are just a bit too aggressive in my opinion. The 1" width I wouldn't even think about shorts during a ride, which means they fit great, but this 2" gripping digging in my leg always reminds me that I am wearing these shorts. Rapha has informed me that they are not going back to the 1" width. The cargo shorts still have the 1", but the Classic Bib has the 2" as the new normal.

CLASSIC BIBS REVIEW DONE RIGHT
Reviews should go as: I'm 6ft,195lbs, 33in waist. Normally large in Rapha core or XL in Pro Team. Never tried the classic line but, these wear on sale so give it a shot. After reading reviews and product info i got a L and a MED OUT OF CURIOSITY. I tried on the med first and was shocked that they fit. NOT TIGHT BUT JUST RIGHT! MATERIAL IS SOFT AND STRETCHY. THE LEG GRIPPERS ARE AN ISSUE TO LOTS OF PPL, UNLESS YOU HAVE MASSIVE QUADS DONT EXPECT THEM TO GRIP LIKE USUAL when off the bike but on the bike its ALL GOOD. I OWN LOTS OF BIBS BUT IF I HAD TO PICK ONLY ONE THESE WOULD BE IN THE TOP 3, MAYBE #1.

Thoughtful design but flaws make it overpriced
This is my first pair of Rapha bibs, and only my second pair ever, so I can only comparte it to a set from Black Bibs. The chamois is fantastic, comfortable, good cushioning, and it is a better vibration buffer than the one from Black Bibs. The shoulder straps, waist and the wee window, are very thoughtfully designed, immaculate, really. The only downside has been the legs: they are too long for my taste, and while thoughtful, the grip band is too wide, and ends up in the comfort "trenches" most of the ride (neither comfortable nor giving me a waxing). Black bibs has a much better leg design (they even do shorter inseam bibs, which Rapha, take a note...). If all Rapha bibs have this same leg design, I'll be better off with a set from Maap or Pedaled.

Was really looking forward to wearing these shorts but was so disappointed. The general fit and quality of the shorts was good BUT the gripper on the legs was ridiculous they are so big and just waft around and my legs are not that skinny!

Leg grippers are massive
Bib short fits fine, however as people have mentioned in other reviews that the leg grippers are way too large and chunky. They're also not very tight, lucky for me I have large muscular legs, if you have skinny legs they might be really loose and baggy. I wouldn't buy the new classic line again unless they change the 'new' leg grippers.

Standards slipping.....
This is the 6th pair I have bought over the years and really disappointed. Shoulder straps feel cheap and poorly finished and the allegedly new and improved grip band is actually poorly fitting and appears baggy! Unfortunately I tried them on assuming they would be as previous pairs so couldnt return them.....

I have been wearing the Classic Bibs for years and the latest pair I just receive has a different construction around the opening around the thigh. I have always purchased a size small and the opening has always gripped firmly. With this new construction there are now gaps between the gripper and my leg!

Excellent Color and Performance
I love the color of these classic bib shorts. These bid shorts are very comfortable and the fabric is great even in hot and humid weather. The bib straps fit the contours of your well and the as usual this is made of high quality material and stitching. The grips at the bottom of the shorts hold really well. When putting the shorts on I recommend flipping the bottoms inside out so that you're not dragging the grips against your skin while hiking it up.

Classic Bib Shorts - Classic Style and Comfortable
COMFORTABLE! spending 2+ hours on the bike and still happy to continue is not something I would have been happy to do with previous Bib Shorts, the padding in these are next level. The styling of the bib is great the Black on Black is subtle enough and the material of these breaths well and keeps you warm when needed but not hot. The fit is great, the leg could have been 25mm (1") shorter as I am vertically challenged but they don't quite rub on my knees or the back of my legs so that is a personal issue. Have ridden with these a couple of times in the rain and while not water resistant the light rain beaded off and when they did get wet they dried fast.
Overall very impressed and expect to use these for quite some time to come.

I had high expectations with these bibs. The fitting seems off: they feel a bit loose, although I ordered the same medium size as my other Rapha bibs. After putting them on and starting the ride, they feel OK.

Update on a Classic Brick Coloured Bib Shorts
Complete redesign of an old classic. I had to drop down a size from a size I’d held fast for >15yrs. And no I hadn’t lost weight. The length of the leg was longer than previous pairs and just about fitted above my knees. Another few mm’s and they’d have been returned. Wasn’t sure about the length of the rubberized ‘cuff’ particularly as I kept catching my feet and legs putting them on. However, on first outing they felt and looked good. Luv the brick colour. ‘Chamois’ as comfortable as ever on a long ride. Bibs fit fine and snug, no pulling or chaffing.
