Description
A staple since the early days of road racing, mitts are an essential piece in all but the coldest conditions. Inspired by traditional cycling mitts, this pair features classic shaping on the back of the hand with a four-way stretch fabric that makes for a comfortable fit. The palm is made with high quality leather from Pittards which provides excellent grip in all weather conditions, as well as excellent abrasion resistance. Carefully positioned padding guards against road vibration and prevents numbness in your hands. The velcro fastening tab holds everything in place while leather piping at a stylish finish. Once you’ve finished your ride, two finger pulls make removing the mitts easier.

Great mitts, quality item
I have tried many gloves and mitts over the years trying to stop the numbness in my left hand, sometimes the more padded the worst it becomes. I tried the Rapha ones and with the sizing it appeared I was at the upper end of Medium but these were too small. Exchange was seamless (especially given the current holdups with the virus) and the large fitted perfectly. They ooze quality and grip on the bars is fantastic and I would give them 5 stars as I got them under the SAVE25 deal but the only minor grip is the lack of a hook or sleeve to help get them off. My concern is that they will frey in time with being removed via the fingers.

From great to not so great
I really like the fit and feel of these gloves. They are made of a quality leather, provide excellent grip, offer a lot of comfort on long rides. I much prefer them to the other set of mits I have. If I wrote this review after the first couple rides, they would get a 5 star without hesitation. That being said, the leather dyes my hands black on long hot (sweaty) rides. After a couple of months of wear, I am also noticing some durability issues. For this price, they should get me through more than a summer of riding.

Plush leather, but be warned of ‘suntan’ hole :)
In general it is well made and size fits my hand perfectly. Leather is real plush and the satin/polyester on the back is ‘sufficient’ to wipe off your sweat. But for intense rides in hot & humid weather, a velvet (sweat) wipe might work better. However of course, it would affect the overall aesthetics of this glove….and look un-Rapha (haha). Hence if u are choosing this glove, i would say one would be choosing ‘form’ over ‘function’….for that retro look with leather luxe feel. For rides under hot days, be prepared for a big ‘suntan’ hole on the back of your hands.
It should also be noted that washing instructions indicate it is ‘hand-wash’ only. In my multiple washes, the leather tan still bleeds. Hence, I’ll be sticking to my Castelli gloves for now…..

Good design but already starting to fail
I love the materials but I have two big gripes: there isn’t padding where I need it and they are already starting to come apart after only 4-5 rides. Really the first Rapha product I haven’t been totally impressed with. Plus they stretched out a lot during my first ride to my hands slide around inside them which isn’t a great feeling.

Disappointing
Having had the crochet backed classic mits - which were excellent - these are really disappointing. No where near as comfortable, padding too thin to be worthwhile, leather also thinner. At this price and with the Rapha name on them expected a lot more. Seems a bit of a theme at the moment with Rapha - come on chaps, we love the brand but it’s about quality, and that is slipping.

Retro Aesthetics with Modern Comfort
I have used this for a couple of rides so far and I love it. On the first ride, you'll tend to notice the gloves on your hand a lot. Its new out of the factory, the seam between the thumb and the index finger seems to dig into your skin. After the first wash, all these things disappear. The leather is softer, the seam 'disappears' and the mitts feel 'preloved'. Comparing with the Pro Team Mitts (PT Mitts), this is very much more padded. These Classic Mitts do not go as high up the wrist as the PT Mitts, and the huge cut-out makes the Classic feel like only the essential parts of the hand is protected, reducing bulk. To me, the classics seem to provide more 'grip' because of the leather. The elastane of the classics on the backhand is thicker than the PT Mitts but the cut-out makes up for the ventilation. I prefer this over the PT Mitts cos it has that vintage-modern look and is really comfortable. One thing to note is that the 'Rapha' logo embossed on the leather palm disappeared after the first wash - nothing to worry about.

Classic Mitts
I’m being generous with 3 stars. Decent quality, but nowhere near the construction and material quality of previous mitts. And the worst part, the leather die transfers to your hands when you wear them.

Classic looks, ultra modern performance
The Rapha Classic Mitts are a dream. They're truly additive to the riding experience, improving bar feel and grip. In my first month with these, I can truly say these mitts disappear when you're on the bike, yet really help with comfort during hot climbs in southern California. The Pittards palm is supple and maintains its grip when sweat-soaked—yet it did bleed quite heavily onto my palms the first week. The padding in the palms is quite low profile and effective—it doesn't affect grip on the hoods or drops at all. The backing of the gloves is light and mops sweat from your brow quite well despite not having a terry spot on the thumb like other gloves. Really pleased with the fit, finish and style of these mitts. True winner in my book.

Do these run small or true to size? Depending on the glove, I wear medium or large. Do they shrink at all? I'm tempted to purchase a large but am not sure. Thank you.
They fit true to size and do not shrink. We recommend purchasing in the same size you wear in your other gloves. Our sizing guideline on the web page should also provide help.

Given that the palms are made of leather, how does one wash them?
The size guide does not seem to work. What size would I need for these mitts? The circumference of my hand is about 19.5 cm. I usually wear size 7 in normal gloves so I guess I would need a small.
What's the best way to care for these and wash these? After a few balmy rides they're getting a bit salty...
