The sights of Lucca
An early afternoon arrival to Pisa airport to be greeted by a member of the Rapha Travel team, followed by a short transfer to our hotel in Lucca. We’ll spend some time exploring this historic Tuscan city, whilst our pro mechanics set up everyone’s bikes for the week - whether Canyon hire bikes or your own. Relax and enjoy some of the region’s finest food and wine during our first dinner together.
Lucca to Castelfalfi
A genteel start to the week heading south from Lucca circumnavigating the Monte Cascetto then crossing the agricultural plains of San Donato. We gain some altitude via the gradual wooded slopes of Chiecinalla to arrive at our hotel for the night in Castelfalfi.
South to the Palio di Sena
The second day of this Italian adventure takes us deeper into the rolling hills of the region, meandering through the back roads of the Riserva di Castelvecchio towards our rest point for the evening in Siena. Be sure to take a stroll through the labyrinth of streets and gasp upon the Piazza del Campo, the site of the world famous, and quite bizarre, horse race Palio di Siena.
Strada Bianche to Bagno Vignoni
We continue our journey south from Siena. In contrast to yesterday’s riding we move away from the wooded areas to a classical Tuscan vista of undulating vineyards and stunning hilltop villages. Some sectors of Strada Bianche (white roads) make for a truly memorable day.
Bagno Vignoni to Castel Monastero
The Queen Stage of our Randonnée takes us back towards the north, with stunning views of Monte Sante Marie. With the hard work done in the early part of the day, enjoy winding descents towards our hotel for the night. A special dinner awaits.
Chianti Classico country
Continuing north, we pass through the Chianti Classico region, world renowned for producing award-winning wines. Take some time in the medieval town of Radda in Chianti and enjoy the amazing ceramics of the area.
Mangaicane to Montecatini Terme
Our final day of this spectacular ride takes us to the west of Florence through some of Tuscany’s most iconic landscapes. But for a couple of minor bumps in the road, today’s ride will feel suitably relaxed, a fitting way to conclude a week of inspiring cycling, food, wine and good company.
After a leisurely breakfast, transfers to Pisa airport will be available throughout the morning where your Rapha Travel team will bid you a fond farewell, until the next time.
