Classic Winter Tights
The evolution of a classic
Description
Based on the Classic Winter Tights, but now featuring a chamois pad and updated construction, this new pair of padded winter tights is designed to provide all-day comfort on those long winter rides. The tights use a high-stretch Thermoroubaix fabric to guard against the cold, while an extended rear panel that covers the kidneys and lower back offers added warmth. The fit of the tights has been completely overhauled, moving all seams away from the front of the knees to increase comfort. The single join behind the knee also allows for bigger fabric panels, improving elasticity and enhancing the fit of the tights further. A reflective rear leg panel in a contrasting colour keeps you visible in low light, as do large reflective Rapha logos on the outside of each thigh.

Cozy Winter Spins!
I love a winter ride and I've now worn these tights in temperatures ranging from +10c to -3c and been very comfortable at both ends of that range. Below zero, I knew I had a much better set of tights on than my old (cheaper) ones which were decidedly draughty in comparison. These were toasty, but not too hot at higher temperatures either. Despite the price, it was the comfort of the pad in my equivalent classic bib shorts and how well they have worn over a year and a half that made me buy the tights at full price. I checked out other brands, but concluded the Rapha's wouldn't let me down and ultimately I'd get good value out of them.

When does winter start?
These work very well when the temperature drops. The extra height on the panels really helps keep my core warm. I use these when the temperature drops below 42 F, they could be used up to around 50 or 55 if you don’t own a pair of knickers, but you may sweat a little more than you like.

Comfortable, warm and great.
I tried the Core Winter Tights With Pad and Deep Winter Tights, before buying these Classic Winter Tights With Pad. The classic were the most comfortable fit and pad for me and on the bike you almost forget you are wearing them, so you can focus on the enjoyment of riding. I admit that find the Rapha products expensive, but Rapha always delivers a quality product.

Great tights - designed for Europe
These tights are really very comfortable, and are very warm.
Two points I'd make - they sell these in Australia, but the reflector is on the wrong side. This should be on the right hand leg, to face into passing cars.
The second point is they are much higher at the front than the short leg bibs, so it requires some serious yoga moves to use the bathroom without taking the bib off.

Superb down to -5c for 2-3hrs
These were a worthwhile buy for New Zealand winter this year. I don’t need this level of protection often each year, but when I do it’s very badly needed and very welcome. I started to feel the chill through these about 2hrs into a ride at an average speed of about 28km/h. Conditions were dry and fairly still other than movement generated airflow.

Classic winter tights perform exactly as advertise
I needed some warm long tights for cold winter weekend rides in Tasmania. These garments fit well, the fabric is warm, the pad suits my shape well, the high back is particularly effective & can be easily combined with additional layers, the reflective elements are reassuring safety elements.

Are these warmer than the Core Winter Tights?
Temperature ranges are very subjective and they depend greatly on the person wearing the tights. In, general, I would say these are warmer than the Core Winter Tights.

What are the differences between Classic Winter, Core Winter and Explore Cargo Winter Tights? Besides Cargo pockets, of course. In terms of fabric, water resistance and chamois thickness.
Classic Winter Tights - Robust, high-stretch fleecy fabric with a high back panel for extra warmth, not treated with DWR, same chamois as the Core Winter Tights, but is size specific, bright reflective back leg panels.
Core Winter Tights - Very stretchy fabric, it's not as robust as the fabric on the Classic Winter Tights, chamois is the same as the Classic Winter Tight, but isn't as specific from size to size, not DWR treated, subtle reflective elements.
Explore Winter Tights - Fleece backed, very stretchy fabric, treated with DWR, runs long, soft, yet dense, chamois that's perforated for quick drying time, lots of reflective elements.

Hi there Curious as to the level of insulation these tights provide. I already own the 3/4 Bibs, how does the material compare? Is there extra insulation in the crotch area? Are they as warm as a shorts/tights comb?
The Classic Winter Tights with Pad are going to have a thicker, warmer fabric than the 3/4 Bibs. There isn't extra insulation in the crotch area, but there a high back panel for added insulation around your kidney/lower back area. I cannot speak to specific temperature ranges because warmth and comfort is a very personal subjective thing and different for everyone.
