Designed for all conditions, including high summer, the Merino Mesh Base Layer offers high performance and exceptional comfort. Made from an updated merino-blend fabric exclusively for Rapha, the higher merino content provides excellent moisture management and natural antibacterial qualities, with further ventilation from a lightweight mesh structure. The Merino Mesh Base Layer has a dropped tail for a great fit on the bike. Finished with a Rapha logo tab on the chest.

For extra care machine wash in a garment bag to prevent any snagging on the delicate merino material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfortable Really comfortable under a jersey, really fine merino. Medium was spot on (usually a large in jersey's, t-shirts, etc) but the fit is close to the body but not restrictive as the fine mesh fabric stretches, but not tight, so you forget you are wearing it. Comfortable fit and length. I have worn on a few cooler rides and it works well to keep you warm, especially under a layering system, but also cooling as the weather hots up (something I was skeptical about), but transfer the cool air once you lower you jersey zip. Delicate material so care need when laundering, but should last a while if it looked after. Usual Rapha styling and attention to detail.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Merino Mesh Base I needed more base layers as mine always seem to be in the laundry. I noticed this product had many great reviews. People say it keeps them warm during cooler days , but especially that it keeps them cool on hot days. I found this not to be the case. I noticed absolutely zero difference between this and the regular PT base layer in it's ability to keep me warm or cool (although the regular might keep me slightly warmer on cold days, possibly due to the waffle-like construction). I still get sweaty on warmer days during hard efforts. The fit/cut is identical to to the regular and it is a well made product. I just think it is unnecessary.

It could be beaten like copper, and polished like glass; and the Dwarves could make of it a metal, light and yet harder than tempered steel. Its beauty was like to that of common silver, but the beauty of mithril did not tarnish or grow dim." I ordered both the long sleve and no-sleve version, and following recommendations from customer support at Rapha, I ordered Small, as I also do with my merino base layer (I prefer medium for the pro team base layer, and find that snug and nice). Small in this short sleeve was perfect, very tight and snug on my 185cm/70kg body. On the long sleeve merino mesh, however, I had to change into M, as the arms were just too tight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Almost-perfect base layer I bought this base layer about a month ago and, although it lives up to its function, the merino wool has a burnt hair smell when it gets wet that is extremely off-putting. And since the purpose of this base layer is to wick, it will get wet and stink. This is why I cannot give a good rating. The smell is strong enough that even after you wash it, it will stink up the laundry room (and I've washed it several times trying to get rid of the smell). When spending this amount on a base layer, I expect exceptional quality and this one misses the mark. I've had several base layers that were a third of the cost that didn't do this. I have several merino wool pieces that don't do this.

For me, this top fits perfectly, snug but not uncomfortable, doesn't bunch under my jersey, and is just warm enough to wear on a cool day of 55' or so. For reference, I wear a size 42 jacket and the large fits me. (American sizing).

What is the difference between this and the MEN'S MERINO BASE LAYER SL?

The Merino Base Layer is a bit thicker and warmer than the Merino Mesh Base Layer.

After reading the reviews, there seems to several complaints concerning the garment tearing after one or only a few uses. Have there been any changes to make the garment more durable?

The material on this garment has been updated and is more durable than previous incarnations, however it is still a delicate. lightweight material. When removing it is wise to be as gentle as possible.

For hot days, do you recommend this vs Hot Weather V-Neck Base Layer

Both of the Base Layers you talk about would be a good choice in hot weather, although the Pro Team Mesh will be a more streamlined fit

Why did you change the ratio of merino to polyster vs the previous version of the merino mesh (which was 70% polyester / 30% merino)? I have one of the previous iterations - would you expect them to perform very differently?

There is more Merino in the product as this was technically found to be more anti-bacterial as a material and therefore would be more odorless.

How does the sleeveless merino mesh base layer compare to the pro team sleeveless base layer for wicking, warmth, ventilation, etc?? Thanks

Hi, both these base layers are similar in wicking and ventilation but the Merino Mesh Base Layer will be warmer. Also merino wool has naturally antibacterial properties and although both synthetics and wool have the ability to wick, only wool has the ability to wick away moisture in its vapor state.
