Rapha and EF

One year done, one Monument won. Two classics and ten stage wins. Quintessential cobbles, alternative calendar gravel and vintage climbs across states, countries and continents.

For sixteen years we’ve worked to make the best cycling clothing in the world, and in that time our cutting-edge kit has seen some of the sport’s most prestigious podiums. After a two year hiatus, in 2019 we returned to the men’s WorldTour with EF Education First and a plan to disrupt the status quo.

Our aim was to uncover cycling with character, by getting inside the sport we know and love. Our film crew followed a year in racing firsthand, from the prestigious WorldTour one day races and Grand Tours to the all-new alternative calendar events where mountain bikes and gravel riding came into the fray. Now we’re recharged and ready for a new year of racing – here’s what’s coming up the road.

The Races

Cape Epic

8 days. 647 kilometres. 15,550 metres climbing. Colloquially called the Tour de France of mountain biking, Cape Epic entrants race the stages in pairs across the rugged mountain trails, rocky singletrack and sandy farm roads of South Africa’s Western Cape.

Tour of Flanders

In 2019, Alberto Bettiol’s first professional win came on the cobbles of Belgium’s biggest classic, and this year will see the return of the Italian Lion of Flanders. Sean Kelly – who finished second three times, but never topped the podium – said, “Flanders was one of the most horrible races to ride but one of the greatest races to win."

Dirty Kanza

Two hundred miles of the midwest’s best gravel await. At last year’s race, Alex Howes looked across at teammate Lachlan Morton after six hours in the sun – a bit over half way through – and said, “I’m coming apart.” We’re not in Kansas anymore, indeed.

Leadboat Challenge

New for 2020, the Leadboat Challenge combines MTB classic Leadville 100 with the newly minted Steamboat Gravel for a weekend of back-to-back racing in the Rocky Mountains. To become a LeadBoat Legend, riders must race 106 miles on their mountain bike one day and then take on Steamboat’s 144-mile gravel parcours twenty-four hours later.
