Portraits from Paris-Roubaix
The Men of Paris-Roubaix: a sartorial portrait book contains beautiful original photography of some of the early riders of Paris-Roubaix, the toughest and most beautiful of road cycling’s one-day Classic races. Reproduced from the archives of the French National Library, and presented in the style of an old sport photographer’s album, each of the 21 portrait photographs can be easily detached, to be displayed or sent as a postcard. Included in the book are evocative start- and finish-line shots from the 1890s to the 1910s, as well as striking studio portraits from the 1920s and 1930s, showing off the style of these early ‘convicts of the road’. Each image is captioned: there are both champions and nobodies in these portraits, but each man has his story.
