    Rapha Travel Staff Picks 2018

“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.”

    12 December 2017

Ernest Hemingway was right – exploring a country on two wheels is by far the best way to do it. Likewise, the Rapha Travel ethos is to discover new places by bike, in style, and for 2018 we’ve prepared another spectacular calendar of trips.

With something for every level of road rider, channel the spirit of the great writer and explore new lands with us in 2018. To entice you, the Rapha Travel guides have chosen the trips they’re most excited about for next year.

    COLOMBIA RANDONNÉE

A point-to-point journey through cycling's most exciting country.

“Colombia. Unknown, unpredictable, simplified and amplified. This journey will take you from Bogotá to Cali over the three mountain ranges of the Cordillera de los Andes: Oriental, Central, Occidental. From jungle to páramos, over the mighty Letras climb and onto the Cafetera region, new cycling adventures await. ¡Vamos! ”

    – Ben Lieberson, Rapha Travel Guide, UK

Our three planned departures, starting January 2018, are already fully booked, but we are considering adding a fourth. Be the first to know.

    GIRONA ESCAPE

Live like a pro for a weekend, cycling the amazing roads of Catalonia.
    30th March - 2nd April

“Quiet roads, where drivers obey the 1.5m rule? Check. The chance to ride the old training routes of Lance Armstrong, George Hincapie and Michael Barry? Check. Amazing Catalonian food in a vibrant, historic city? Check. Girona isn’t a cycling mecca by coincidence. Let us show you the best roads, restaurants and gelato in town.”

    SOUTHERN UTAH RAID

A journey through the unforgettable vistas of the American Southwest.
    6th – 12th May

“Visiting the remarkable National Parks of Zion, Bryce and Grand Staircase Escalante – as well as some lesser known routes – makes this trip a standout in terms of scenery and riding. Throw in a few gravel roads and quaint State Parks, and many past guests have rated this trip as one of their favorites. Highlights include staying two nights in the furthest Southern corner of Utah at the renowned Boulder Mountain Lodge, which hosts Hell's Backbone Grill, recently rated the best restaurant in Utah – and we get to dine there twice!”

A trip to the heart of road cycling's sporting history.
    10th – 17th June

“For a true sense of how it feels to race as a pro this route is hard to beat. Riders tackle the incredible climbs which feature in the Tour de Fran ce year on year. On the third day, after climbing two ‘hors catégorie’ climbs, the ride ends with a summit finish up Alpe d'Huez.”

    PROVENCE RETREAT

The perfect blend of riding and relaxation in luxurious Provence.
    20th – 25th June

“With its incredible rolling landscapes packed with fruit orchards, lavender fields and vineyards, Provence is one of my favourite places to ride. This wild farmland might have become a tourist mecca of late, but we’ll take you away from that to its hidden, beautiful edges.”

    NORWAY RAID

    A rugged, mysterious, magical country.

We’ll ride past immense fjords, journey along deserted gravel roads, and see reindeer living on the dramatic landscapes. Norway's iconic climbs Dalsnibba and Trollstigen are also on the menu, as is a ‘refreshing’ dip in the fjords at the end of day two.”

    CORSICA RETREAT

Retreat into the wilderness of an island jewel.
    19 - 24 August

“A two-part thriller, this is a slightly more active Retreat than our other offerings. Starting in the old capital of Corte, we’ll use the winding trains of the interior to gain access to some of the best riding Europe has to offer. After a transfer ride to Porto Vecchio on the southeastern coast, we’ll enjoy a rest day by hitching a ride on our chartered boat to approach the city of Bonifacio and get lost in its endless narrow streets. A truly inspiring island – so good I spent my honeymoon there.”
