Description

The combination of warmth and racing performance is tough to achieve, because insulation usually results in a bulkier garment. The Pro Team Long Sleeve Thermal Jersey is both fast and warm. The jersey fabric is a slightly thicker version of the current Pro Team Long Sleeve Aero Jersey, and has a fleecy brushed back inner for on-skin comfort.

The jersey is cut in our Race fit, and it should be reasonably tight to ensure nothing flaps in the wind and slows you down. Further speed advantages come in the form of bonded back shoulder seams, with none at all on the front, as well as a new rear pocket construction that lies completely flat when not filled – you’ll cut straight through the wind. Designed for winter training when skies darken earlier, there are reflective elements all over the jersey, as well as headphone loops, and an easy-use Vizlon zip.

I’ve yet to use this jersey for the purpose I bought it (it’s Winter!) - as an ideal top for cool, dry weather Spring/Autumn sportives and fast club training rides as a more aero and breathable alternative to a jacket or short sleeved jersey, gilet and arm warmers (which I find uncomfortable after 30 minutes or so). Usual great Rapha material, look and feel; and usual tight Pro Team fit, short in the front, long back with good but not overly roomy pockets; and overly long sleeves - which I find tolerable but mystifying as someone very tall and lean with arms this long would probably find the jersey shorter than they’d like at the front.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a thermal jersey I have the aero in the same aqua marine colour. Looking at them together the differences are a slightly higher collar and the sleeves are the fleece and not the “aero” patterned material. The fit is slightly more relaxed and where I would where a medium in the aero I chose a small in the thermal. I am 6ft and match the medium dimensions based on the size guide but I prefer the more aero fit by going small. The sleeves are too long and slightly too loose in the medium. I don’t see this jersey working for temps below 10-12 without starting to add base layers and gilets.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I question Thermal but typically good quality Still to the very high standards of Rapha quality, style and fit. I certainly wouldn't call it thermal though. Slightly fuller long sleeve jersey at best. I went out in a 9.2 degrees morning (feels like 6.3) with a long sleeve thermal under garment and gillet and it wasn't toasty. I'm not good with the cold so maybe others will be ok with it. I doubt it could go 5-8 degrees without reinforcement garments. I would have expected better. It certainly didn't compare to other 'thermal' jackets I have which is disappointing as I now have to buy additional items to fill the void. Again, good quality, it will be a personal preference and you need to understand what your buying. I only rate it lower because it is not what I expected. Maybe in the detail Rapha need to put its expected temperature ranges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Supreme performance I bought this as the autumn set in, hoping it could replace a jersey for the shoulder season. I have used the jersey with a long sleeve merino base layer in temps ranging from 8 to 15 degrees, and it performers supremely. Much less bulky than a jacket, it gives ample warmth during a training ride as well as breathability. Perfection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jersey for cold weather Wore this jersey for the first time the other day with a lightweight sleeveless base layer in high-50s degree weather and it was perfect for the conditions. I think with a heavier base layer and/or a vest/jacket, you could take it down well into the 40s (and perhaps even 30s) no problem. I'm 6'2, 165lbs and the Large fit me well. It's a tad long in the sleeves, but not enough to bother me (and frankly, I'd rather have it a shade too long than too short anyway).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but with flaws Well crafted long sleeve jersey which I use for autumn and spring rides and in combination with a thermal base layer even during cold winter rides. But unfortunately two things bother me with this product: the sleeves are clearly too long, which results in having quite a bit of bulky fabric around the wrist. And than there is the fact that there is no high visibility colour version available. A problem with all the Pro Team Rapha winter gear. I just don't feel particularly save in dark colours during the short winter days. I wear a size medium (182cm/72kg).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spring or autumn go to What top do you reach for on a spring or autumnal morning in the UK. If you're a rapha buyer, it's this one. Paired with either a short sleeve base layer or a long sleeve to regulate the temperature, or even a thicker winter base layer on an even cooler morning ride it's the perfect do it all go to jersey. Typically snug pro team fit with ample pockets and the usual zippered pocket for valuables, long in the sleeve for pulling down over gloved hands and a full length zip for temperature regulation when it hopefully warms up mid ride. Perfect. A few nice reflective touches complete the overall package. All that's left is to decide whether you're going shorts or 3/4's on your ride

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm breathable & versatile When I first put on the Jersey I found the side panel that comes up to the arm pits a touch less comfortable than a previous softer long sleeve Rapha Jersey, but then panel seems to be more breathable and once in a riding position one realizes the jersey is designed to be worn and completely comfortable in a riding position. The Jersey can be used as a stand alone piece or as part of a layering system. I prefer to use a synthetic long sleeve for riding in Canadians winters below a Rapha merino long sleeve Winter Jersey, the combination of the two providing a perfect combination of breathability and warmth.

How does this jersey perform in rain?

There is no water resistance built into this jersey. We would recommend a gilet/jacket for the wet or our Shadow collection.

I am having a hard time choosing between a size small and medium. I measure 179cm tall, C: 94 cm, W: 83 cm, H: 92 cm.

We all regulate temperature differently, but generally speaking this is suitable for temperatures below 15C depending on your riding conditions and personal preferences.

My husband is very tall, 6’5” and slim at 161lbs.  Many cycling tops fail him because they are too short and don’t even reach his belly button. Would this top be long enough for him.  I own a few Raphael tops myself and they seem very long for me at 5’4”

The Pro Team Long Sleeve Thermal Jersey is one of our longer jerseys, though it features race-ready cut which uses a drop-tail hem with a longer fit in back, and shorter cut in front to eliminate fabric bunching when in the cycling position. We've provided the center-front lengths below, which measure from the top of the zipper to the bottom of the hem. We hope these measurements help you determine if it is the best fit for him. I wear a small in the classic long sleeve and short sleeve jersey. and brevet. They fit perfectly and are quite body tight. I prefer tight fit. Im 181cm and 65/6 kg. Would you suggest the small in the Thermal long sleeve Pro Team? Thank you.

The Pro Team range is coming closer than the Brevet or the Classic ranges. I would still suggest the size Small as Extra small will be too tight in regards of your height and weight.

Hi. I have a Medium Core long sleeve jersey. Would you recommend the same size for the Pro Team Thermal long sleeve?

Pro team collection has a tighter fit than the Core jersey and because it's dependent to customer's personal preference to how customer's prefer garments to fit, it is hard for us to be exact in sizing advice. If you are unsure we have a free 30 day return policy so you can order multiple sizes and then return the one that doesn't fit as good.
