Description

Designed for high-tempo riding and racing when the temperature is hovering around, or below freezing, the Pro Team Thermal Base Layer takes the Deep Winter Base Layer as its inspiration and adds a Pro Team technical twist. This base layer is made from a polyester fabric that has a slightly bobbled finish against the skin, engineered to trap air and keep your body warm without compromising the fabric’s quick-drying and fast-wicking properties. This ensures that even when you sweat during hard efforts, moisture won’t work against you on your cool down. Reflective bars printed on the neck provide visibility under dark skies and the base layer has a tall snood which covers up to the mouth and ears when worn high. As with all Pro Team products, the base layer is cut for a low on-the-bike position – ready for you to drop the hammer, all winter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazingly warm. First up this is much warmer than you would expect. For me I always run cold, so I would be wearing this down to about 5º with a Pro Team Training Jacket. Love the collar that really stops the drafts but isn't really thick or restricts movement. Now the tricky bit. If you have a tiny head and are as skinny as a rake, go with regular sizing. I attempted a medium which is my normal Pro Team size and I honestly could not get this item over my head let alone to feel the 'compression' tightness. Go a size up! I could now get it over my head, and it's a snug fit around the body. However, in doing this, the arm length now is stupid long...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit for colder weather I bought this to replace a couple of very old base layers. I was looking for something to keep me warm in the UK on both commutes and longer club rides at the weekend. This is really toasty. I can wear it under a jersey or the Core winter jacket on cold days around 0c and feel warm enough on a commute. On a harder club ride this is where it comes into it’s own as it keeps you warm but not too hot with a winter jersey. I loved this so much that I’ve bought a second one I had to get the Large instead of the Medium as I struggle to get the collar over my neck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome base layer I've been wearing this layer for 3 type of activities, cycling, skiing and casual. When cycling I've paired with a winter shell for 0-10C and no problems whatsoever, it really keeps you warm without sweating more than the normal. I've also used for a couple of skiing sessions and it is also great. Furthermore, the long neck is a big plus both at cycling and skiing. The arms are a bit too long but not a big issue for me, overall the fit is quite nice. Because of this, I've also used it as a layer while dressing casually when being outside for long time. Very versatile garment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for cold riding. The neck is great, since it’s connected, no wind gets under it. Runs very tight though, since it’s pro team fit. I sized up from a normally medium to a large for this and it’s still almost a compression shirt. I’m not overweight, just a guy who both bikes and lifts weights occasionally, so my legs are like a cyclists, but my upper body definitely is not like a pro cyclists.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice kit for all but coldest (and windiest) rides Excellent fit and feel. Pretty warm and more robust than the lightness suggests (tho' not quite as effective as Assos equivalent, but has the advantage of the neck). I might go for something with wind block capability for truly wintry rides. And I wish it was just marginally longer. I'm not super tall (5:10 / 177 and 68kg) or especially long torso-ed, but as with Pro Team jerseys I have, even Medium sits up just slightly high. If your winter tights come up snugly then it is not a huge issue. Love the purple but the green and black also look good and go with the other Pro Team winter kit.

Washed repeatedly and always comes up good, sizing is spot on for me in M (175cm 68kg). Only drops 1 star as it could be a little longer, or have more of a dropped tail

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Warm Love this base layer - It is really warm. However, it is pretty thick so it doesn't really work under a jersey if your jersey is close fitting. So far I have only used it under a looser fitting jacket like the Pro Team Training Jacket. If you pair the two together, it works great for temperatures around 1 to 5 degrees.

My chest is just 104cm. Based on your fit guide, it seems I should go for L but wonder if taking XL would not be better. A few people seem to have issues to get their head through the collar and I have slightly longer arms than people of my height (183cm)

We recommend a size L based on your chest measurement, however, if you think an XL would work better for you then we encourage you to choose this size. The arm length of the base layer will vary by 2 cm from size to size.

Hi! What temperature range is this base layer for? Do you think it could be used for hiking in winter conditions too?

This base layer can be used for hiking too. The temperature range depends on what you wear over this base layer but it would work in temperatures from -2 to 7 degrees C.

My chest is 37.5", waists 31", hips 37". Very close to a Small. However, last time I tried a Rapha jersey small, the arms were too narrow. I lift weights! So my arm biceps are 13" no flex, 15" flexed. Will a Small fit? And would Medium be too loose?

What would you layer this under? I usually wear arm warmers and merino short sleeve base layer under a merino jersey. If it gets colder I’ll add a vest. If it gets really cold I remove the warmers and Jersey and wear a winter coat. Where does this fit?

This is a basleyer, so it is designed to be your first layer. It will replace your combination of Merino Short Sleeve Baselayer + Arm warmers that you wear under your jersey.
