Cycling over-shorts ideal for commuting

Rapha’s Touring Shorts are a road riding interpretation of the cycling overshorts known to mountain bikers as “baggies”. They are made from a lightweight, breathable fabric and are versatile enough for both urban commutes and longer rides.

Designed to be worn over bib shorts, Touring Shorts have a slim, contemporary cut to ensure they won’t flap in the wind while on the bike. Performance features include a non-slip panel in the waistband to hold the shorts in position when riding and satin tapes inside the hems to stop them catching on undershorts.

Other details include a special gusset to prevent chafing and easy-to-use waist adjusters. A zipped pocket at the front of the shorts is cut shallow to prevent objects digging into the leg when cycling and the shorts have an additional rear pocket for carrying valuables. Reflective piping on the back of the legs helps make the rider more visible when riding in poor light.

"If you don’t want the Lycra budgie-smuggling look or equally unflattering “baggies”, Rapha’s classically tailored touring shorts tick all the right boxes."

Waist : natural waist measurement is taken from above the hips, close to the navel.
Inside Leg : from the crotch to the base of the ankle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite shorts I've been wearing these for a few months, mainly for casual rides, over padded bibs or without bibs. I tried the Randonnée Shorts, which look great in the product photos, but I found the fit on the Touring Short was better. I roll the cuff and they're the perfect length. They feel great and have plenty of stretch. I'm a size 30 waist, 66kg, and the size 30 fit perfectly. I wish they were still in stock! If I could buy more I'd risk wearing them on long tours and bikepacking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply brilliant I have used these shorts for years now. They last thousands of miles and are always comfortable to wear regardless of the type of shorts you have on underneath. I seem to have bought the last ever pair in my size. That is a shame as none of the other city or all day shorts offer the same simple function over form. Rapha, please reinstate these shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! I bought these for my husband to encourage him to cycle more and these are perfect! He wouldn't entertain the Lycra route, and these fit the bill brilliantly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality and great features. I bought these for a trip to San Fransico as I was planning to do some casual rides in and around San Fran. They were superb. I wore them on and off the bike constantly. Washed them regularly and they dried overnight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pair of shorts I've ever owned I ride MTB XC, these are the best shorts I've owned. The fit is perfect, I have searched all over for shorts with a narrow fit like these (other "baggy"shorts are too baggy, I can see why these appeal to roadies looking for a more socially acceptable off the bike short). The material has a nice stretch/flexible quality and washes well. 2 pockets allow car key and phone(or maybe gels) to be carried and not noticed. The waist can also be adjusted by a very well made elastic pull and button type mechanism on the inside. Sincerely the best cycling shorts I've ever had

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very versatile Shorts I brought these Shorts for a Summer Cycling holiday. Going off former reviews I went up one size to "36 waist. Seems to fit me well. I usually take "34 waist in regular pants. I would have preferred the legs to be shorter. They come down to the knee. Probably not a problem for riders with long legs. The material is lightweight and stretches well and the waist can be adjusted. The colour would not have been my choice but it was the only one available. Should be perfect for touring both on and off the Bike.

Please advise the inseam - is it the same as the Randonneur short at 31.5cm or different? Thanks, Bob

Asked by: Bob O
Hi, the inseam will be approximately 1cm longer than the Randonnée Shorts in the 32, but this will vary slightly between sizes.

Quickie re sizing; I usually wear S in Lycra shorts, but in casual wear jeans for example I'm between 30 and 31" (I get 31 where possible) and I wear them snug not baggy. Recommendations for size for these? 30 or 32... Thanks!

Asked by: theMUSETTE
Hi, it is always hard to advise on sizing as we all differ slightly. The Touring short does have a slim, tailored cut and we would advise trying the size 32. We do have a free 90 day return period should you find they do not fit.
