A print from the archives of a design great
Rapha and Herman Miller have teamed up once again to produce a series of limited edition cotton cycling caps, inspired by the landscapes of southern Australia.
The Flinders Range is Australia’s largest mountain range, and is famous for its exposed faces of stratified rock which appear red, orange, and pink in the evening sunlight. To match these tones, we selected a print by Alexander Girard that is based on the traditional Polish decorative art of paper cutting, called ‘wycinanki’.
Founded in 1905, Herman Miller nurtured the talents of designers Charles and Ray Eames, Girard, and many others, becoming the leading manufacturer of of modern furniture, textiles, and industrial design. From 1951 to 1973, designer Alexander Girard served as the head of the Herman Miller Textile Division, designing over three hundred textiles in multiple colourways.
