A beautiful merino wool layer for busy days on and off the bike
Functionally, merino wool is the most beautifully soft and moisture friendly natural fibre there is. It works to move perspiration, but also keeps you warm and fresh. Pared with a Rapha base layer, the Breton Sweater is a perfect mid– or outer–layer for commutes and active days where you need exceptional comfort, breathability and insulation. The sweater has a fully fashioned construction for a great shape and fit.
Stylistically, the Breton stripes, worn by early pioneers of road cycling such as the magically named Hippolyte Aucouturier, was originally popularised by artist Paul Gauguin (adopting the work clothes of Breton fishermen) and then in turn Pablo Picasso, and other style icons like Brigitte Bardot. So there’s plenty of romanticism as well as functionality in this wonderful garment.
At the end of each sleeve, a double layer ‘signalcuff’ features both hi-vis and reflective yarns, which can be revealed to offer added visibility when riding in low light. Simply turn back the cuff to reveal the hi-vis bands.
