Description

The 1952 Course de la Paix

The Peace Race was one of the biggest sporting spectacles of the 20th century, an era-defining amateur bicycle race held behind the Iron Curtain after World War Two. The fifth edition of the race in 1952, which covered a 2,135km course over twelve days between Warsaw and Prague via Berlin, was won by the Briton Ian Steel. This silk scarf features a stunning graphic print inspired by the posters for the event and the rich visual culture that flourished around it. It was considered a great honour for an Eastern Bloc designer to be asked to make posters for the race and the standards were set very high. This Italian silk scarf is the ideal accessory for the discerning rider’s Sunday best, with the versatile qualities of silk keeping you both warm in the cold and cool in the heat.
