Description

Long-distance riders can encounter a full range of weather conditions, so a lightweight layer that is both warm and packable is essential. The Brevet Insulated Jacket is made with recycled Polartec Alpha® insulation to provide exceptional warmth and breathability so you won’t overheat during harder efforts. The jacket features a full length two-way zip for easy adjustability and reflective detailing for visibility in low light. The fast-drying recycled insulation is coated with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating meaning the jacket sheds water rather than holding it like natural down insulation. Soft, brushed jersey side panels add warmth and allow the jacket to stretch over full pockets, while reflective detailing increases visibility in low light. The jacket has two accessory pockets of its own on the lower back, secured with snap down zippers. When not in use the jacket rolls up neatly, secured by an elasticated loop at the neck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fantastic jacket for intermediate to cold Used the jacket about three times, slightly bulkier but seemingly no heavier than the brevet windproof jacket. Very very comfortable material, perfect sizing - just enough room for movment and no flapping. Incredibly warm for the thickness. Last ride started in the cold and during the day it got to 15 or so and I just about managed to keep it on unzipped. Great for zipping up at stops to stop you cooling too quick. There was an issue with delivery but it was resolved very very effectively with no fuss and a very trusting approach to the me, the customer. Sending a out non-charge replacement when the delay (no Rapha's fault) was discovered.

Having always cycled to work through the winter, I’ve built up a collection of rain jackets to use as additional layers when it’s really cold. What I really needed was this to keep the cold out but also doesn’t make me overheat on the hills. Folds down really small should the temperature rise and needs packing into a jersey pocket. Only negative would be it’s probably not the best to combine with a backpack - the outer layer is thin and may tear over time. But in reality it’s not designed for that use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket - new favorite! Purchased to wear during pre-race (CX) warm up and warm down, as well as on cooler days. I have worn it in 40-50F temps with just a wool (150-200g) or synthetic (pro team) base layer. When it gets into the upper 30s or lower 40s I added a L/S jersey as well. Keeps me warm and vents heat very nicely. Fit is just perfect (I wear a small) and the quality feel of the garment is excellent. I now use this instead of a soft shell or hard shell unless it is 35F or below or if it is a windy day (there's no wind block material). On slower speed gravel, CX, MTB riding the wind is less a concern due to lower speeds. Overall one of the best Rapha pieces I own (and I have nearly all the various types of kit). Ten out of ten on this one. I also got the brick color which is quite nice and a welcome change from my usual preference of black/blue/gray.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Winter Wind block Jersey vs Insulated Jacket If you are like me, reading the reviews before I decide to buy, than I hope this review help you in the decision making process. I own a few Rapha products and among my favorites are the insulated gilet (must have ) and the Winter windblock Jersey. My experience - and I will compare it with the Winter windblock Jersey - is the following: its very light and therefore very comfortable to wear. In terms of temperature control, I used this between 6° and 15° (Celcius) so far. With a light light base layer, long sleeve jersey when cold and a base layer when its warmer. Never was cold. Please be aware that the Jersey is NOT stretch, why is that important: I noticed when I placed my I-phone 12 in the right side pocket, I could feel the shoulder seam being pulled down (at first I didn't knew what caused it) and I was pulling the shoulder/sleeve up during the ride.... didn't feel comfy at all. So when I ride now, I don't put anything heavy in it and its fine. Draw back is that riding with a base layer only means I have to put the phone in the jacket. Moisture has been discussed already. Things that should not get wet need to be put in a plastic bag. Also the wind blocking properties of the Jacket are good but not as excellent as the Winter Jersey (of course). Overall I'm very happy with the jacket. 4 stars because of the inability to carry my phone. I would rate the Winter Wind Block Jersey 5 stars

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An essential Has to be my go-to jacket for when the temperature is just above freezing. Warm enough, especially when used as part of a layering system but also well-vented so you don't get too toasty. The water resistance seems pretty good too. Rear pockets are easily accessible and very roomy. Only odd thing is that it's a bit tight around the chest, unlike the rest of the Brevet range.

I've worn it twice so far on 3 hour spins, both times layered with a long sleeve base layer and a long sleeve Rapha classic jersey. First time the weather conditions were 6°c with wind chill making it feel like 2°c; second time, 4°c with wind chill making it feel like -1°c. It was very effective. Kept me warm, (maybe a little too warm, I'll need to experiment with different layering). Stood up well to a couple of light showers too. I'm 170cm, 71kgs, and a size M is a good fit; not too tight, not too flappy. It packs up sufficiently to stuff in a jersey pocket (or a bar bag).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely Jacket, Strange Sizing Not sure about the sizing on this. Usually I'm a medium for Rapha kit, but this time it was far too tight across the chest. I understand they have to cut for the bike position (shoulders forward), but standing or sitting up with shoulders back is uncomfortable and puts a strain on the zip. There's no give or stretch in this kind of fabric and it feels like Rapha haven't allowed for this. You might be able to get away with it if you're only wearing a base layer or light jersey, but if you want to wear this as another layer over a couple of thicker winter layers you could have problems, particularly if you're at the larger end of medium. Once I'd exchanged the medium for a large, the jacket has proved near perfect. Lightweight and warm, it rolls up just (and I mean 'just') small enough using its built-in elastic strap to go in the back pocket of my cycling jersey. To be honest, I'm probably not using it quite as it was intended. Despite it's neat self-packing feature, It's very much a jacket for riding rather than carrying, My plan mostly was to put it in my pocket for the ride in and use it only once stopped at our regular cafe rendezvous where we only ever seem to sit outside whatever the weather. Nevertheless it still works for me. Just as my coffee arrives and the sweat from the ride starts to chill my bones, I pull Rapha's Brevet Insulated Jacket from my back pocket and with its dual layer, high collar and generously cut sleeves I'm warm again in no time. Apart from the sizing issues, another good looking, beautifully designed and well-made product from Rapha.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressive! At first glance, I thought the fabric was very thin and will not keep me warm on my rides! I expected a thicker fabric and insulation. However, that changed after I went on my first ride! I was very surprised how warm and light it was, which I truly enjoyed, because it is packable if it gets too hot on the ride! It is meant to be worn on longer rides, where conditions keep changing! I haven’t worn this on a rainy ride yet! However, I do have to keep in my that it is not waterproof, yet providing some protection on a light rainy ride. Overall, I love the style, colors, and want to say: Thanks again Rapha!

Pockets or no? Product description: "The jacket has two accessory pockets of its own on the lower back, secured with snap down zippers." Answer to Rob36 5 months ago "This jacket does not have any pockets." Which is it?

I wear core rain jacket 2 based on L size but, a little bit tight but wear is O.K and core jersey based on XL but comfortable. Could you recommend this which one better L or XL for this jacket? Thanks

We recommend a size XL in this jacket so that you can wear it comfortably over a jersey as it does fit a bit snug.

Based on your height and weight alone as well as your usual sizing, we would also recommend a size S. We do, however, recommend comparing your chest, waist and hip measurements as well to the size chart on the product page for the best fit.

How do you reapply the DWR and ensure the insulation doesn’t clump after washing if this jacket can’t be tumble dried even at low temps? DWR needs the tumble drying to reactivate

Can this jacket be used in the cold period as a windproof layer on descents? Can it be stowed in the jersey pocket when not needed?

This jacket is not considered wind proof but it does offer insulation and wind resistance. It can be stowed in a jersey pocket when not in use.
