Description

Overmitts for extremely wet and cold conditions

Overmitts for additional waterproofing and insulation in extreme conditions, or for riders who suffer from cold fingers. Designed to be worn over the other products in the Rapha Glove System, the Overmitts are made from a breathable and waterproof three-ply fabric, with taped seams throughout. The fingers are paired in a ‘lobster claw’ construction (pioneered by deep-sea divers and high-altitude mountaineers), as keeping fingers together retains warmth.

The Overmitts allow good dexterity when changing gear and braking, and the index and middle fingers have a foldover sleeve when you need to open a food wrapper, use your phone or search for keys. Reinforced palms and fingers ensure grip is maintained on the bars and the cuffs have a waterproof AquaGuard®VISLON® zip with textured puller, making it easy to grip with gloved hands. The Overmitts have a nosewipe on each hand and reflective piping and reflective logos for visibility. The interior is finished with a brushed tricot lining.

Note: The Overmitts are designed to be worn with other products in the Rapha Glove System. They are not designed to be worn on their own in cold conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Full disclosure: my hands tend to get cold very easily. That said, after all sorts of glove combinations/experiments I ordered these lobster mitts. They got the full battle test in -16c weather in DC a couple of weeks ago. I wore the Rapha glove liners underneath and was not cold for one second on that cold and windy 2 hour ride. My toes were blocks of ice so maybe Rapha should make neoprene boots with an outer layer of whatever space age material seals these from all wind and wet getting at my extremities. Three stars for style since lobster hands can never be stylist by default. It's the max rating for that category.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from unsure about this one! Bought these hoping they'd be the prefect cure to my cold hands in the winter. They are very well made, and have good features (finger slot). I sized myself as a M, but bought L with the aim to fit over warm gloves. I should have gone for the XL. Decided to send back, rather than go for the XL. The wrists seemed too baggy when zipped up, and not slack enough when undone. They also seemed a little too short for a, over mit. Think these could be a great product, but perhaps after a few design tweaks... You look like something out of Dr Who, but that's a price worth paying if you have warm hands.... Would have liked brighter colour option! perhaps lobster pink/orange!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult Was excited to try the modular glove system so I used the overmitts with the deep winter gloves as well as the merino liners. I also followed the recommendation to upsize one size for the overmitts. It was exceedingly difficult to get the overmitts on. I even bought 2 sizes up which was certainly easier to get on but then sloppy in the fit. Tried using the whole system in -5 degree F weather and my fingers and especially thumb was painfully cold within 10 minutes. I kept trying them at different temps and at least for me , I was still cold unless it was near 20 degrees F. On a positive note, these are great for rainy weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent gloves that keeps my hands warm As a rider who frequently suffers from cold hands these gloves have seriously helped keep them toasty warm when paired with a pair of the Pro Team Softshell gloves. I can't recommend them enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does Exactly What It Should After much deliberation (mainly around the price) I decided that warm, dry hands were worth the money if the gloves did the trick. I can say that after a deluge of cold incessant Brittish rain, my hands were warm and dry. Note, I paired them with the merino base layer gloves which I also now love. Yes they're expensive but cold, wet hands ruin rides and when you spend so much on a bike, etc, leaving your hands exposed, makes poor sense if you ask me!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too small and too cold I bought these in size M (same size as I regularly use for gloves) to be used for commuting and a few longer rides during winter. They are really bulky and stiff, making it near-impossible to wear over my other winter gloves (also size M). The only gloves I can comfortably wear inside these are very thin merino liners. Which brings me to my second problem with these: Although properly water- and windproof, the stiff, rubberized material and lack of internal insulation works as a remarkably effective thermal bridge to transfer the cold from the outside to the inside. So when it's properly cold outside (like -5 to -15C), wearing merino liners inside simply does not cut it. They probably work better in above-zero/wet conditions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavy duty hand protection I live in southern Sweden where winters are a grey brownish mess of hurricane force winds, constant rain, and occasional snow with temperatures varying from about -10°C to +10°C but usually hovering around freezing. To my experience colder weather is not so bad. It is only a matter of adding insulation. The difficult stuff is when its around 0° and raining. So these gloves offer no insulation in themselves, that has to be provided by some other glove, but will give you what appears to be complete protection against rain and wind. This is a huge deal. I've never before managed to keep my hands completely dry when it is really coming down. The price you pay is lack of dexterity. Shifting takes a little getting used to and will probably never be really quick. These are not exactly racing gloves, if anyone would have thought so. Also, for people with large hands, like myself, even XL won't offer a massive amount of room for other gloves. I can just about squeeze a winter glove into them but that will result in me not being able to move my hands hardly at all, which also means the insulating properties of the winter gloves aren't really doing all that much work. Thinner liners of some sort are preferable. Nonetheless, I appreciate the fact that the gloves aren't insulated since this makes them a lot more versatile for conditions that are also somewhat warmer.

If the Overmitts are worn over the Winter Gloves - do you need to buy the size up to make them fit?
