Modelled on a classic cycling style pioneering by Coppi and Anquetil for aesthetic beauty on and off the bike.
The Classic Sunglasses are made for days when riding is only a part of the plan. To put our new frame and our Rider Optimised Surface Enhancement lens technology to the test, we headed out on a café ride that would take us up and down San Francisco’s notoriously steep hills, and in and out of the shadows cast by the famous city skyline.
Through shadows cast by building and bridges, blinding light reflecting in windows, to ride through the city is to ride through constantly changing light conditions. To adapt to every twist and turn, the Classic Glasses feature Rider Optimised Surface Enhancement lens technology which reacts rapidly to changes in light to help you see clearer.
A slice of open space in the centre of San Francisco, Twin Peaks is a firm favourite among the city’s cyclists. We rode several loops of the circuit in windy conditions. With stable grippers and an adjustable nose piece, the glasses are as well suited to general road riding as they are to city spins.
Later in the day, the wind was so high that we chose not to cross the famous bridge, stopping instead for a pizza in town. With a stylish silhouette modelled on age-old designs, this frame performs on the bike without looking conspicuous off it, perfect for days spent on and off the bike.
Rider Optimised Surface Enhancement
Cycling is a sensory experience. A rider’s legs and lungs might do the lion’s share of the work but without the senses, you’re riding blind. Rapha's proprietary lens technology was designed specifically for cyclists, reacting rapidly to sudden changes in light and enhancing contrast on all road surfaces. It helps you spot the hazards sooner and plot a smoother line. You still can’t see around corners but, whatever is around the bend, you’ll see it sooner in Rapha eyewear.Read more
