A new design to protect racers in the foulest weather

A transformative garment that can be used to adapt all racing kit to be suitable for use in foul conditions, the Pro Team Softshell Base Layer acts as your first, and last, line of defence against the elements.

Constructed from two fabrics – a high-stretch, water-repellent 3-ply membrane for the front and rear panels, with a lighter fabric under the arms – the garment provides a great range of movement and comfort against the skin.

The Pro Team Softshell Base Layer has also been updated with a half-length front zip, allowing for ventilation when the temperature or the pace rise. The tailoring has been improved, too, with refined sleeve and neck size giving a more flexible fit, and a lighter performance fabric used under the arms giving a broader range of movement.

Flatlock stitched seams prevent chafing, and high-visibility details at the cuff and collar catch the eye in low-light conditions. The seams are taped at critical points along the shoulders and sleeves to prevent water penetration.

As with all Rapha Pro Team products, the Softshell Base Layer has race-ready tailoring, with a raised front hem for a better fit while in the drops.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Passed the test! I tested this garment over two very wet days on 4hr+ training rides, my goal was to wear as little as possible but stay warm and dry. I was more than pleased with the results, the Pro Team Softshell Base Layer is excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit great performance I've had this base layer for a month and have been really impressed. I used it as an outer and an inner layer on wet or cold days. So far it's performed incredibly well, keeping the rain off my torso and keeping the wind out. It breathes well and is a fantastic fit. I may get a second one or a long sleeve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Design When the weather gets cold I will be wearing this base layer quite a bit. My favorite feature is the zipping turtleneck collar. Pair this base layer with any jacket and warmth will ensue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good sensations I've not had a chance to wear this yet, cause the crud conditions aren't here in Somerset quite yet... not far away I guess :-( This base layer looks like it needs cold , damp weather and will come into it's own....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice fit but dont sweat too much wearing it. Using this a lot as weather in Scotland has been useless especially temp wise.Anything from 6 to 16 degrees is good for me with a long sleeve top or my short sleeve Shadow top with arm screens. Put it on one day when i probably didnt need it and sweated a lot more than usual , took about 20 mins to remove it! Great base layer tho' will almost certainly buy another in the near future. Im 159lbs and medium was perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like a Shadow Jersey but in a base layer Superb for wearing under race jersey [or a non-race jersey of course] when the weather is looking really dodgy. Just so happens I had to ride a Crit in heavy rain and for the most part this base jersey kept me warm and relatively dry. Works in a similar way to the Shadow range. Really well worth having in the base layer collection!

Has the cut of these changed? I have one from 2 years ago and although I was very impressed with the fabric the fit was bizarre. It bunched up around the neck and back and was very short at the front. Wear XS across of all of Raphas range.

Asked by: StevieGriff
Hi, the cut of these has not changed for quite a while as we have not made this product for over a year. This is now the last of this stock hence it being on our Archive Sale page.

after a wash do you have to use an apparel re-proofer to regain the DWR status or is it DWR for ever, thanks

Asked by: sea and sand
Hi, this product should have a DWR coating re-applied after several washes, it does need this treatment after every wash. Due to its construction, it will still function well even if the coating is not re-applied.

What is the recommended temp range for this product? Is it suitable for a hot and wet condition like a typical Asian tropical thunderstorm?

Asked by: Sam Lian
Hi, as we all regulate temperature differently it is hard to advise on the temperature range. It is intended to be worn in cold and wet conditions so might not be ideal for a humid tropical thunderstorm.
