Lightweight merino-blend cycling base layer for year-round riding

Designed for all conditions, including high summer, the Merino Mesh Base Layer offers high performance and exceptional comfort. Made from an updated merino-blend fabric exclusively for Rapha, the higher merino content provides excellent moisture management and natural antibacterial qualities, with further ventilation from a lightweight mesh structure. The Merino Mesh Base Layer has a dropped tail for a great fit on the bike, while flatlock seams and raglan sleeves ensure comfort. Finished with a Rapha logo tab on the chest. Warm when damp but without the bulk of a full merino fabric, the natural antibacterial properties of wool keep persistent odour at bay.

For extra care machine wash in a garment bag to prevent any snagging on the delicate merino material.

  • Made from a proprietary merino-rich blend for the perfect balance of breathability and insulation
  • Lightweight open mesh structure
  • Flatlock seams for comfort and low bulk
  • Dropped tail to cover the lower back
  • Rapha tab on neck
  • Raglan sleeves
  • Naturally anti-bacterial, itch free and odour resistant

  • 60% merino wool
  • 40% polyester

  • Machine wash at 30C in garment bag or handwash
  • Use Rapha Merino Wash, wool or non-bio detergent
  • Lay flat to dry in shade
  • Do not bleach

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Classic For me, a daily commuter who 'runs hot', this is the perfect base layer. When combined with my Classic Jersey and merino arm warmers, this keeps me the perfect temperature in weather down to about -1ºC and up to about 8ºC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Warmth Bought this for my husband as a birthday gift and because he really needed a base layer for his morning bike run. He reported that it kept him comfortable but not overly warm which he dislikes. Since we’re in California, the layer was just right. I loved the beautiful attention to detail on the gift — my husband felt very special. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent winter base layer This is ideal for those riders that 'run hot'. Under a Pro Team Training Jacket, this is all that is required in low (2-3 deg C) temperatures. The mesh structure helps to stop me from over-sweating and it provides more than enough warmth. The fit is better than the older SS and is more figure hugging, meaning you can easily layer up in winter. I would have preferred a longer tail, though. Another feature that should be on all winter LS tops, is a thumb loop to prevent the sleeves riding up, which would give you that bit of extra coverage and prevent any exposure to the elements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my favorite pieces of kit Have worn this on every ride since acquiring it. Thin and form fitting. Great piece for layering in the fall weather when mornings can be cool but it heats up quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Merino mesh base layers is great I bought these because I tried one out last spring and found it to be fast wicking, very breathable and warm as well. Not too warm either, seems to be the right warmth for the temperature...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful piece for cycling and for everyday use. I use the LS version of the Merino Mesh Base Layer both for cycling and in particular also for leisure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly thin base layer Read the reviews which said these were really thin but warm, and still wasn't prepared for how thin they were. But the reviews were right these are really warm and hopefully will last for a long time and not rip when you pull them off soaked in sweat. Bought 3 and use daily really good so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top class base layer Have used these base layers for a number of years now for three season riding and find them first class. The new ones appear to have a slightly different weave, but they are still excellent in use.

I have the 1st Gen of this and short sleeve, still can get a little funky at one ride. Can you tell me how much the merino content has changed in this compared to the original? I imagine that would help with bacteria, etc..

Asked by: Jake F
Yes absolutely, this new version does have a higher content of merino wool which makes for better anti bacterial and heat exertion wicking.

I'm looking for a long sleeve base layer to wear under my jersey in hot weather that gives me protection from the sun. Is this my best option?

Asked by: NateTheGreat
Hi, we suggest you try the a non merino Pro Team base layer instead. You can either try the long sleeve or a short sleeve teamed up with The Pro Team Arm Screens.
