Fine merino for all-day cycling comfort

Any experienced cyclist knows the value of a good base layer. It will keep you cool on scorching hot cols in July and warm on freezing descents in January. A good base layer helps regulate body temperature whatever the weather, transfering moisture from the skin and proving a vital aid to performance.

Rapha base layers are made from 100% merino wool and are naturally anti-bacterial and odour resistant. Wicking moisture vapour extremely quickly, they are soft on the skin and itch free.

Rapha's merino base layers come in three styles; sleeveless, short and long sleeve. All the seams have flatlock stitching so they won't chafe and are positioned behind the shoulders to avoid bag or bib straps rubbing while cycling. The base layers are close fitting and cut long at the back for a better fit on the bike.

"Base layers are incredibly important in winter to help regulate the body's temperature, but they also keep the body dry without it getting too hot. Rapha's base layer does this superbly, something that the mention of wool might normally have you doubting."
- Cycling Weekly

"There's a soft pliability to Rapha's wool that makes it a joy to wear as a layer against the skin. The wicking is outstanding. It's the best base layer I've ever worn [and] was equally pleasurable at both ends of the temperature spectrum."
- Competitive Cyclist

"Despite having so much cool Rapha clothing to choose from, my absolute favourite is the merino wool undervest. I practically live in those things. Whether it's training, sleeping or just chilling out around the house."
- Kristian House, 2009 British National Road Race Champion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Luxury! I’ve recently bought my fourth one. It’s simply the best item of clothing I own. It fits well. It feels luxurious. It’s hard wearing with loads of machine washes with no pilling. Brilliant to wear when cycling and it will keep you warm, but also brilliant for wearing all the time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect fit very good fitting base layer. Have used it down to -2 with a winter top only. Intend to use it skiing this year as the fit and elimination of sweat seems ideal for that too.

I'm a female, about 5'5 and 115lbs. Was considering getting for myself but am petite and unsure if xs or xxs would be best? my chest about 33 around. Thanks!

Asked by: Val24
Hi, because fit is not just dependent on height and weight but mostly on each body shape and customer's personal preference to how customer's prefer garments to fit, it is hard for us to be exact in sizing advice. We suggest you try the XXS and should you need to exchange or refund, we have a 90 days return period for new/unused garments with tags and in saleable condition.

Will such base layers be suitable for riders to ride in hot and humid weathers of 33 degrees?

Asked by: Kssw
Hi, as a long sleeve base layer you may find this to be too hot. We would recommend a short sleeve or even a sleeveless base layer for those types of weather conditions and temperatures.

I'm trying to buy my husband this base layer. His measurements do not help me decide what size. Back 60 cm Arm 66.5 cm Chest 89 cm,. He is 6'3" tall and only 155 pounds. What size should I get him?

Asked by: Elzarape
Hi, because fit is not just dependent on height and weight but mostly on each body shape and customer's personal preference to how customer's prefer garments to fit, it is hard for us to be exact in sizing advice. With the measurements you have given us it seems that although he is tall he is also quite slender and would possibly fit well a size small. Should you need to exchange or refund, we have a 90 days return period for new/unused garments with tags and in saleable condition.

Is it difficiult to put an arm warmer on top of the base layer? Thanks

Asked by: Martin Ng
We would recommend a Long Sleeve Jersey in combination with this Long Sleeved Base Layer. It would be very difficult to wear arm warmers over this item

Which of the blues best matches the classic navy jersey are are they the matching, colour coordinated 'warm warmers' (or what I thought were) shown in marketing material?

Asked by: A Hyndman
Hi, for the Classic Jersey II the best match will be the Navy. The Merino Arm Warmers are currently not available in Navy.

Hi, would you be able to provide a weight for a size large? Do they fold down relatively small?

Asked by: BobbyDazzler
I am afraid we do not have the exact weight for this in a large but yes, it can fold down to a small size that will fit in a jersey back pocket when folded down neatly.

Good morning I'm about to order a long sleeve merino base layer but have seen a couple of comments regarding the sleeves being "extra" long. Are they longer than normal? Thanks

Asked by: Raffagent
Hi, the sleeves are not longer but do have more stretch than our jackets or jerseys. Some people do size down to find their best fit in this base layer.
