Pro Team protection from wind and rain

The Pro Team Softshell Jacket originates from a request from Rapha’s WorldTour riders for a wet-weather shell that would protect them from the elements, but also allow excess body heat and sweat to escape so they wouldn’t overheat when going flat out. The resulting jacket is made using Polartec’s innovative Power Shield Pro fabric, which strikes the perfect balance between protection and breathability. On the outside layer, a smooth and durable hydrophobic surface sheds water easily. Inside, a knitted surface contains a ‘micro-grid’ structure, a network of small squares to to wick sweat and disperse it quickly. Sandwiched between the two, the highly breathable Power Shield Pro membrane blocks 99% of the wind, while still allowing air and moisture out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds expecations! Was excited to try this jacket and one of the main selling points was the zips on the ends of the sleeves, just like the PT rain cape. This is where this jacket is excels, I have worn a range from gloves from Neoprene to Deep Winter and the cuffs fit over all of them (some zipped, some not). This is super helpful in preventing water from running over gloves and not down into them. It also allows for getting ventilation as well if things dry off. Just unzip and fold the cuffs back and you are set until the rain starts again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moisture control Andre warmth With or without layers this jacket is comfortable in a wide range of cool temperatures. The cuff zips when unzipped provide the perfect amount of airflow to manage moisture

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exselent for colder days! Have used this for 4weeks now in temprature from 10 to -2degrees celsius. I have only used base layer down to 5degrees then a aditonal cotton base layer when riding below this. Have newer felt cold! My only consern is that this Jacet will be to warm in the shifting tempratures in the spring since it´s no ventilation options exsept for the ziper in front.. Else from this, a greait product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Is this the best Cold weather jacket ever? First, it's stunning to look at. Great color and design. 36 degrees climbing and decending it was the perfect companion with great protection from the wind and cold. Unzipped up the hills and zipped down the hills, didn't feel cold once.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacquet, racing fit. Very good below 10 degrees Celsius. But to warm over... Rain? Nothing passed!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a beast! Wore this on a sunny spring morning in Melbourne, Australia, with temperatures ranging from 8 to 12 Deg C. No baselayer was needed. Blocks out wind and kept me warm. Felt slightly warmer in this jacket compared to my other Pro Team Training Jackets. Wicks sweat and I did not feel clammy! When I got home, I ran the tap over the exterior of the jacket and it still repels water. This will be my go to jacket for winter. Only problem was the size ran a little larger than the other PT range. I had to go one size down to avoid baggy sleeves, but ended up with a very tight fit around my arm pits when standing up. No issues while riding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A versatile and impressive jacket I've worn this three times now. The first, on a dry and breezy day in 10-12 deg C over a vest base layer it was excellent at blocking the wind but felt a little too warm. The second time, again worn over a sleeveless base but this time in 10 deg C and drizzle which turned to heavy rain it kept me dry in a 90 minute ride and breathability was excellent. The third ride, a 50/50 on/off-road 4 hour ride in 6-8 deg C with occasional showers, it kept me warm and dry when worn over a long sleeve merino base. I usually go for large in pro team but followed the advice in the Q&A to go for medium and it is a good fit. A very versatile jacket. The only downside? What do I do with my other Rapha jerseys and jackets when this is so good?.?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very comfortable, looks great. The fit is perfect for me (174cm, 70Kg, Small). You just don't notice it when wearing it, which is the sign of a good piece of clothing. First time wearing was on a 4 hour ride with a long sleeve base layer, and the temp didn't rise much above 5C - I was warm enough the whole time. The reflective detailing is really bright, and it really is surprisingly warm bearing in mind how thin and light it is.

Does this have the same dimensions as the race cape - ordered race cape but the arms are to long and neck in medium are to big - arms and neck perfect in small but chest to tight. Thank you

Asked by: KevinA
Hi, this garment is different and dimensions will be relatively similar but not equal to the race cape. And as it is a completely different material it will also fit differently. This is one garment worth having in a winter wardrobe so should you purchase one and not like it we do have a 90 days free returns policy for garments being returned new/unused with tags and in saleable condition.

I wear a size M in the Core Jersey...what would be the best size for this for me? Thanks!

Asked by: JimFernandez
A medium would be a good choice based on your previous purchases, but worth checking your chest size in the sizing guide to be sure

What is the temperature range of this jacket ?  Which jacket is more suitable for cold winter conditions the Pro Team Softshell or the Pro Team Training Jacket ?

Asked by: QuerubinRebelde
This Jacket is suitable for riding in temperatures between 0 and 15 degrees Celsius. Both Jackets are suitable for Cold weather riding, but the Softshell is probably better suited to cold dry training, whereas the Training Jacket is more versatile and suited to changeable weather conditions

How come Rapha doesn't have a similar product outside of the Pro Line? the classic softshell never came back.....

Asked by: AdamG
The Classic Winter Jacket combined the benefits of the Softshell and the Hardshell together in one garment.

Hi I was just wondering if the fabric is the same throughout the jacket or does it only have powershield membrane on the front and arms of the jacket, also if it is using the same membrane as the classic winter jacket will it offer similar waterproofing

Asked by: Neil74
The Three-Ply membrane features in the front and arms, while the rear panel is designed to aid heat transfer, ensuring that you regulate temperature better when riding at tempo and harder intervals. The construction of this jacket does ensure similar waterproof properties, but the Classic Winter Jacket is more waterproof as the entire jacket uses the Powershield material

Do you confirm that the Power Shield Pro membrane is on the torso and front of sleeves only? So the back is not "water resistant" at all...which seems odd since it is very exposed to the rain when racing in the wet...

Asked by: wrinklypea
The rear panel uses a water resistant material, but does not use the Power Shield Pro Membrane as the breathability of this is not optimal for the designed use. If you require a fully waterproof jacket, we recommend the Classic Winter Jacket

I wear a L in the Pro Team jerseys. However whenever I tried on the Pro Team Softshell it was almost 1.5 inches shorter than the jerseys (amount of jersey sticking out). How much more length comes (zipper line) with an XL jacket? How about chest sizing?

Asked by: okcycler
The Chest sizing of the Jacket in XL fits a chest size 42-45 inches and will be slightly longer in the front. The Pro Team Jerseys are designed with a longer front panel for aerodynamic reasons

How does this jacket compare to last years' Pro Team Training Jacket functionality-wise ? Is the temp range & fit any different ?

Asked by: mm74
The two Jackets are designed for the same type of riding, where the Softshell differs from the Pro team Training Jacket is the Three-ply material in the front that is wind and water resistant, while the rear uses a breathable material. The temperature range and fit are comparable
