Norway Raid (RCC)

1st - 5th August 2018

A rugged, mysterious, magical country.

The vast, rugged landscapes of Norway, with their brooding forests, forbidding snowcapped mountains and deep sea fjords offer magical cycling experiences. With thousands of miles of coastline and amazing, deserted roads – as well as more than a few gravel tracks! – Norway has so much to offer road cyclists willing to explore a little off the beaten path. This four-day Rapha Cycling Club edition of the Norway Raid will test even the most hardy riders; the focus is on local hotels and cuisine and building camaraderie with club mates. Expect a challenging parcours that will make the post-ride relaxation that much sweeter.

Who is it for?

Reconnect with your love for the bike and exploration. Raids are designed for independent riders with a thirst for going off the beaten track, and exploring lesser-known but nonetheless spectacular destinations and roads. You’ll still have access to a Rapha guide, full mechanical and logistical support, but the emphasis is on self-sufficiency, creating an adventure through wild and unspoilt landscapes. Each night we’ll greet you with hearty food and charming, rustic accommodation, to prepare you for another day’s exploring. It is cycling taken back to the essentials: a bike, a fantastic route to ride, and the self-imposed challenges that brings.

How Hard is it?

Because of the emphasis on challenging terrain and self-sufficiency, Raids suit the more confident, athletic rider, or groups of friends who may already have done a multi-day trip and want to challenge themselves further.

Am I strong enough for the trip?

All our trips are physically demanding, but some are harder than others. Raids are among the toughest with roads and terrain off the beaten track and Retreats are among the most relaxing. Our guides and mechanics will support every rider to go beyond their usual level of riding. Each individual trip is rated for difficulty.

What kind of assistance can riders expect on the road?

When you’re riding you’ll always have at least one ride guide on the road with the group. Raids are more self-sufficient than a Randonnee, so while a mechanic will be available they won't be tracing the route or offering on-road support during the day. Your guides will be able to help you out with ride food and drink, as well as local knowledge, first aid, a morale-boosting chat and – if necessary – a hand to push you up the hill if you’ve run out of energy.
