Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beautiful shoe, poor quality control Really beautiful shoe, amazing custom carbon sole and great colors. Unfortunately, the quality control at Rapha may still be ironing out creases regarding their shoe lines. Both heel plates on my pair were loose, with the left nearly falling out and moving quite significantly simply trying them on. The box was also damaged and the shoes were quite scuffed up. I will come back to Rapha shoes in a while, but I’m going to stick to the big hitters for now: Bont, Lake, Fizik, DMT, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and fitted Great shoe! Looks fabulous with the black/ white stripes effect and has a nice colour touch with the Paul Smith colour stripes on the outside rim. The inlay soles with 3 possible arche cambers is very nice to get a perfectly fitted shoe with well distributed pressure on the foot some and from the tightening cables on the top of the foot. The boa cables allow for a very strong pressure, if you tighten them adequately, and even more pressure than needed which can lead to feet getting too little blood flow and becoming numb. Tighten them step by step to find the perfect balance between hold and blood flow. The boa wheel allows for a very incremental tightening which is great. 2 zone Boa is perfect for individual preferences. The opening of the shoe to step in and out is really generous, the cable length allows for lots of space for that. The position of the cleat is far more towards the back of the foot sole compared to my previous Sidi shoes. Takes a bit of time to get accustomed to that. I hear it is better from an ergonomic point of view (Until the science changes again). The shape of the heel (rounded and relatively low) cut on the Achilles) works very well for me. The shaped bunnies on the sole and tongue are a gentle call for us to « get lucky » as Paul has been in his career. Thanks for trying to share that with us. The only drawback to me is that the tongue does not stay centered. It moves sideways to the external side when riding, without exposing any surface of the foot to higher localised pressure from the Boa cable, but the esthetics are suffering a little. Maybe a second loop for the Boa on the top external side of the tongue cold maintain it in a more central position?

is there any sole stiffness index for reference?

We don't use a stiffness index. The plate is 100% carbon fibre in the Pro Team and has great power transfer.
