Description

The Insulated GORE-TEX Field Coat is a performance-driven take on the iconic military field jacket, designed to be used both on and off the bike. The outer shell is a 3-layer GORE-TEX fabric with a C-Knit backer and a fully recycled face fabric, constructed to meet Gore’s Black Diamond standard of protection. The short-sleeve, quilted liner is made with Thermore Ecodown to lock in warmth, and can be buttoned out and worn separately, extending the temperature range of the shell when worn by itself. An adjustable, lightweight GORE-TEX Paclite Plus packaway hood provides extra rain protection fabric while there are plenty of waterproof pockets and storage for everyday essentials. The two-way zip allows for extra ventilation when needed while the adjustable waist and snap closure at the cuffs keep drafts out on colder days. When the weather is uncertain, be sure to wear a coat that can adapt.

Quilted t-shirt liner with 60gsm Thermore Ecodown insulation to lock in body heat.

PACKAWAY HOOD

Fully adjustable hood made with 100% recycled 2L GORE-TEX Paclite Plus that stows away in the collar.

WATERPROOF POCKETS

Three cargo flap pockets, two zipper hand pockets and a zipper chest pocket that are all waterproof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Tech materials. A three season coat. The coat arrived in a slim envelope. The materials are super thin including the thermal liner. Breathabilty of coat is excellent and it's waterproof. The main zip is metal and difficult to start. There is no velco, instead metal poppers are used but they vary in how difficult they are to unpop. The poppers on the hood are difficult to undo and I would probably rip the thin hood material if I was to reach back and rip open the hood if it started to rain. Would be better to have greater reinforcement for the hood poppers and throw away poppers that are too difficult to undo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Canadian Weather! A Classic Jacket modernized by Rapha. I hesitated to buy the Jacket as some reviews were not as enthusiastic, however this is a high quality multipurpose Jacket. I am a medium and it fits well, with multiple pockets that ensures your personal items are secure. The chest pockets are slightly awkward but you get used to it. Yes the zipper is stubborn the first time but glides efficiently afterwards…its high quality as expected for a Field Jacket. For rainy or chilly weather between -5C to +10C this is my go to jacket for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The one jacket you need. I wanted one jacket that does nearly everything. Something for getting between meetings, something that had some warmth and something suitable for wet and humid conditions. Most importantly I needed something for spending a long time standing on the side of the road in the cold and wet, or hot and wet waiting for a bike race to go past. This is the one jacket that does all of these things It has a removable liner for warmth in winter, lots of stash pockets and still packs down small enough that it doesn't consume an entire race bag.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice try but..... This jacket is great in theory but totally over-engineered to the point that it's almost useless. The pockets are hard to navigate, it's bulky and stiff and the worst part is that the zipper is almost impossible to engage - it literally took me five minutes to get it fastened and it wasn't a case of developing muscle memory - the design is terrible. After ten-minutes (including the five wrestling with the zipper), it went back into the box and was returned to Rapha...pretty disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spot on 180 cm, 88kg size L fits comfortably. Super product, great attention to detail. The only con is the humongous care label on the inside of the insulating vest. Oh, and conversely to what I read here: had zero problems with the zipper — high quality stuff.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Rapha makes better jackets than this one It’s a nice jacket but I expected more from Rapha. It has a wide fitting and it’s not really warm. More an early spring jacket. The zipper doesn’t glide smoothly. So it’s a lot of money for a basic jacket. Normally I’m a real Rapha fan but not this time.

Does one length fit all,say 5f 2" to 6ft 6" ??

This coat is made to be a bit long, but this can, of course, differ by height. As long as you go off of the sizing chart to find your size, the coat should not be too long or too short.

What are the breathability? Are there any ventilation pockets? Are they any zippers under the armpits?

This jacket has no ventilation pocket or zipper under the armpits. but the GORE-TEX fabric offers waterproof and still great breathability. What is the blue ribbon beneath the front zip for?

The blue "tab" is for the user to hold when they are bringing the left hand side as worn zip piece over, to be inserted into the other side of the zip.

How warm would this be compared to the Explore Down Jacket?

I would say the the Explore Down jacket will be the warmer of the two. One is down filled and so very lightweight & warm. The other has a waterproof outer shell and a button-in thermal layer.

Is this a winter jacket, suited for the coldest of days? ( zero of even subzero conditions)

This is an all year round jacket. With the removable insulated liner inside this will be waterproof and warm. In milder weather the liner can be removed to make it more breathable and just as a waterproof jacket. I don't have a temperature range.
