Head of Sourcing

Background

The Rapha range comprises 90+ products across multiple categories, from performance cycling clothes and accessories to skincare, publishing and travel services. Rapha products are sourced from 15+ manufacturers worldwide.

Rapha is now looking to appoint a Head of Sourcing to add commercial rigour and efficiency to the sourcing operations of the business.

The Role

Rapha’s Head of Sourcing will be responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling the manufacture of the Rapha range of products. The purpose of the role is to ensure that Rapha’s ranges are produced and delivered to customers at the right price, on time, and to Rapha’s exacting quality standards, and that the range delivers Rapha’s desired profit margin.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Rapha production team, which includes the Production Manager and Quality Manager, plus overseas agents and/or technical staff
  • Oversee and evaluate the work of Rapha’s overseas suppliers, particularly quality, delivery and ethical standards
  • Regularly review the Rapha supply base, locating new suppliers when needed in the right countries for Rapha’s needs, including fabric and trim manufacturers
  • Superintend the process of improving the visibility of progress in manufacture, and of quality control
  • Ensure products meet expected standards and are at a cost to achieve profitability goals
  • Negotiate payment terms with all suppliers
  • Optimise shipping time frames and cost
  • Supply Rapha’s finance department with detailed forecasting information
  • Ensure regular factory audits are carried out with the supply base to ensure full compliance
  • Develop and foster long term strategic partnerships in particular with core European and Far East suppliers
  • Ensure that all Rapha suppliers agree to Rapha’s terms and conditions of business

Core competencies

  • Understanding of the Rapha brand and business model
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including, sourcing, development, production and quality
  • Understanding of product costing and excellent negotiating skills
  • Ability to deal with complex logistical problems and to manage the production schedule across a number of suppliers
  • Deep experience of working with factories overseas, and an understanding of constraints and timescales
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and Rapha’s employees at home and overseas, and to inspire and motivate them
  • Understanding of the product development process, including product testing methods
  • Understanding of EU and US Customs rules for apparel sourcing
  • Sensitivity to differing cultures, customs and business practices
  • Ability to anticipate problems, and plan and implement corrective action
  • Knowledge of the world’s key manufacturing countries and how to find and evaluate new suppliers
  • Experience of working with Product Lifecycle Management systems
  • Competent IT skills

Experience

The ideal candidate for the role will have spent at least eight years working with a brand, manufacturer or retailer in the garment sector, and will have had responsibility for working with overseas suppliers. This may have entailed working in a technical capacity earlier in his/her career, but in any case hands-on experience of manufacturing would be a significant advantage.

He/she will be used to working as part of an executive team and will have been responsible for managing a team that includes technical and quality managers. He/she will have travelled widely and visited a number of factories in different countries, and will be free to travel in future.

An affinity for road cycling or active sports would be an advantage for this role.

Technical Manager

Location: London

Background

The Rapha range comprises 90+ products across multiple categories, from performance cycling clothes and accessories to skincare, publishing and travel services. Rapha products are sourced from 15+ manufacturers worldwide.

Due to the continued expansion of the product range, Rapha is now looking to appoint a Technical Manager to add experience and rigor into the development of all it’s apparel based products. This new position has been created to manage and develop this growing team and to add authority and leadership into the development process. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished garment technologist to progress their career to a management role.

The role

  • Managing the development team – garment technologists, developers and student placements.
  • To run and ‘own’ the product development process at Rapha.
  • To ensure that Rapha product is of the correct quality and performance standard.
  • To be the technical authority on fabrics, construction and manufacturing at Rapha.
  • To ensure the timely development of all Rapha product.
  • To be the lead person managing the interface between the design and production departments.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implementation of timelines / critical paths.
  • Development of product specifications.
  • Set up and maintain all product files.
  • Run the lab dip program.
  • Ensure that fit is consistent throughout the product range.
  • Run garment review meetings.
  • Set and maintain quality standards.
  • QC checks on all deliveries of Rapha product.
  • Develop and maintain the Product Manual.
  • Run the product wear test program.
  • Oversea all fabric and component testing.
  • Oversea bulk fabric approval process

Core competencies

  • Deep technical knowledge of fabrics (including testing), fit, construction and manufacturing of apparel based product.
  • Previous experience of developing technical product manuals.
  • Extensive experience of working with factories overseas, and an understanding of constraints and timescales.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and Rapha’s employees.
  • Ability to inspire and motive a team.
  • Ability to anticipate technical problems, and to plan and implement corrective action.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to grow and adapt within a fast growing business.
  • Competent IT skills including Adobe AI

The role will involve

  • Reporting directly to the Product Manager.
  • Being a visible team leader both in the product department and more widely within the business.
  • Working closely with the design and production team.
  • Foreign travel – Europe and the Far East.
  • Working closely with all Rapha suppliers.
  • Providing weekly updates on technical and development issues to the Product Manager.
  • Being part of the team - assisting with fulfillment and other aspects of the business when required.
  • Assistance at Rapha events where appropriate.

Experience

The ideal candidate for the role will have spent at least eight years working as a garment technologist and ideally have been trained to degree level in this subject. He / she will be used to be working as part of a team along side designers, production and QC staff. He/she will also have travelled widely and visited a number of factories in different countries, and will be free to travel in the future.
The ideal candidate will already be a road cyclist.

Production Administrator

Rapha is looking to appoint a Production Administrator to help with the increasing demands in the production department. This new position has been created to add to focus and support to this important area.

Key responsibilities

  • Raising orders and sending to suppliers.
  • Monitoring production status at suppliers.
  • Completing stock receipt paperwork.
  • Liaising with freight forwarding companies and factories to arrange the necessary documentation.

Core competencies

  • Good Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and Rapha’s employees.
  • Some experience of working with factories overseas, and an understanding of constraints and timescales would be an advantage.
  • Highly organised and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to grow and adapt within a fast growing business.

Marketing and PR Intern

Rapha currently has a six month placement available for an intern in the Marketing Department at our London office, starting in February. You will gain first hand experience of many of our marketing and communications projects, including events, media relations and development of printed materials. The candidate will work within a small team of people passionate about road cycling, where the ability to think outside the box and use your initiative are paramount.

You will gain experience through the following tasks:

  • Developing practical solutions to marketing goals
  • Involvement in the planning of projects and events
  • Assisting in coordination and execution of events, design projects and daily tasks

Essential skills & requirements:

  • Must be studying or a graduate in marketing, communications or public relations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential and basic graphic design skills would be useful
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks
  • Must be reliable with excellent organisational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-confident and comfortable on the phone
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

London Cycle Club Manager

Rapha requires an exceptional individual to manage our London flagship store that is due to open in April. Since 2004 Rapha has established itself as a leader in all aspects of luxury online retailing and we now aim to do the same on the highstreet.

Due to the success of the 'pop-up' versions of the Rapha Cycle Club, London will be the home of our second permanent location after San Francisco. From being the perfect brand ambassador to controlling P&L and a small, passionate team; the chosen candidate will be able to marry a café, clothing retail and a brand experience to articulate what Rapha means in a physical space.

Key requirements:

  • 5 years of retail management experience within the luxury clothing industry.
  • Some F&B retail experience.

Marketing Manager – Central Europe

Since its launch in 2004, Rapha has become one of the most desirable cycling brands in the world, widely admired for its high quality products and creative marketing. The business has grown by 70% in the last 12 months and was recently named one of the 100 fastest growing companies in the UK by the Sunday Times Newspaper. Sales outside the UK account for two thirds of Rapha turnover.

The European business has grown quickly in both importance and size and Rapha is now looking to strengthen the team by employing a Marketing Manager responsible for Area Central Europe.

Working closely with the Head of Sales and Marketing Europe, the candidate will be responsible for executing various sales and marketing activities in central Europe aimed at raising awareness of the Rapha brand plus acquiring and retaining direct customers. These include:

  • Press/influencer liaison
  • Organizing and executing local grassroots events
  • Content creation
  • Handling and selecting an exclusive network of retail partners
  • Managing the language adaptation process

It is expected that the successful candidate will have 5+ years experience in a sales or marketing role, ideally with sports, fashion or luxury brands. It is vital that he/she is an active and enthusiastic road cyclist and is able to demonstrate clear understanding of the central European road cycling scene. Existing relationships with media or in the sport is an advantage.

Fluency in at least German or French, plus excellent command of the English language is a must. The role offers the opportunity to work remotely but will require regular travel around Europe.

Excellent communication and organizational skills are a given, as is the ability to deliver both on deadline and to the highest executional expectations.

Junior Designer

Location: London

Rapha is now looking to add a junior graphic designer to its growing team in London, UK. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and talented graduate who has experience of working in an agency and a proven ability to create inspiring and beautifully crafted typography and design. They should feel confident working in a team on large projects and seeing smaller ones through from start to finish with guidance from the Art Director. The role will require designing across various media and will include brand outputs such as brochures, print ads, web graphics, packaging and point of sale. The candidate should ideally be a keen cyclist and have a passion for road racing.

Essential skills and requirements:

  • Design qualifications - BA (Hons) or equivalent
  • Experience using Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

Despatch Assistant

Location: London

After undergoing training you will be responsible for packaging, labelling and dispatching items to national and international destinations, and caring for stock and general upkeep of despatch facilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure outbound orders are processed accurately and within the agreed service levels.
  • Utilize internal software in order to facilitate export systems.
  • Utilize daily tracking report to ensure clearance/shipping delays are resolved efficiently.
  • To ensure good inter and intra team communication
  • Manage workload.
  • Monitor accuracy of processes used.
  • Anticipate, identify and resolve problems that could delay the release or movement of shipments.
