Winter gloves for cold-weather cycling

The Rapha Winter Gloves are a slim-fitting, insulating, water-resistant glove with a Durable Water Repellent coating.

The new cuff design eliminates the need for a velcro strap. Allowing for a low-profile cuff that fits easily under jacket sleeves. The palm, thumb, middle and index fingers are reinforced with Pittards goatskin leather and the palms use high-density foam padding. The inner uses a brushed polyester liner for soft, fleece-like insulation, which works with the breathable outer for maximum comfort. The thumb also features a brushed fabric sweat/nose wipe.

Please note: If washing these gloves, once dried, leather glove balm should be applied to the leather palms to keep them supple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeping my Fingers Warm Melbourne Winter, riding in 2-7 degrees for 2 hours and my fingers are nice and warm (with the Merino Liner), they do make it harder to get Gels etc out of the rear jersey pockets but that is OK. Sizing chart is accurate and no velcro, for me is an added bonus. I haven't ridden in any wet weather yet (i know surprising because I live in Melbourne) so cannot rate the water resistance of the gloves but i'm sure there will be no issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect winter riding gloves These gloves are made exceptionally well. The detail in the construction and sticking is amazing. The are protected with leather in the right places and have a nice section on the back of the thumbs to wipe the glasses. The fit is great and my fingers don't push into the end of the glove making the medium a good match for my hands. Very warm and ideal for below 6 degree C.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toasty Warm Toasty warm fingers when riding at 8 to 12 degrees C. Good fit and matches the sizing chart. The cuffs quite tight when putting the glove on/off - but that's probably a bonus on the warmth performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Winter Glove is a bit of a classic It fits that gap between; light full finger, and serious heavy duty, and around here that gap can be 1-2 seasons. The gloves allow fluid use of shifters and brakes. They are not not waterproof but hold up pretty well against a few hours wet weather. No velcro, so after a rotten snotty spin they go in the washing machine. Sizing: I seem to have long fingers or skinny hands (186cm & 82-85kg), the XL works best though the Rapha guide says I should take L.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I absolutely love these gloves! Have been riding at zero celsius with them, combined with the merino gloves. They are not bulky at all and allow movement and touch - You'll be able to search your back pockets, find, open and eat your supplements, trust me! They also work on touch-screens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for winter riding These gloves are perfect for riding in the Pacific Northwest in the winter. The fit is ideal for riding. The fingers have just enough tackiness to make braking/shifting a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable I used these on a four hour ride where the temp was 0 - 5 degrees celsius and my hands were warm the whole time so I am very happy with the gloves; they are better than others I have tried. They are very comfortable and not restrictive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfy, warm and stylish Perfect for 35F to 50F and I can wear shells over them for colder temps. I got the Red-orange, which is highly visible and stylish as well. True to size. XL fits my big hands, unlike many other brands, and the finger length is good for all my fingers. No inside seams to abrade hands or finger tips. Perfect thickness and placement of palm pads for comfort on longer rides. Back of thumb areas soft and absorbent for wiping sweat from forehead/face. Finger tips work with iPhone screen. Only negative is that lack of cuff closure makes mid-ride removal and putting on difficult when they are wet from sweat or rain. New favorite fall/winter gloves!

Sizing choices listed for the Winter Gloves includes size XXS as a choice. However, when I go to the size guide (for women) the glove sizings don't list XXS, they only go down to XS. What is the sizing, in inches, of the XXS Winter gloves?

Asked by: OldAnne
Hi, our Winter Gloves are Unisex so the size guide is as per the guide on the men's section as it is with all "Unisex" Items. Please refer to the Men's Sizing Guide and scroll all the way down to the bottom where you will find full information details for the XXS sizing.

What is the temperature rating of these gloves compared to the Deep Winter Gloves? Also, can you use the Merino Liner with these gloves, and, if so, how much does that extend the temperature rating. Thank you.

Asked by: Kris4138
Hi, it is hard to give an exact range as everyone's hands need varying levels of protection to stay warm. However, the temperature range of these gloves is about 0-7/8 degrees Celsius. The Deep Winter Gloves would be useful from -5-3/4 degrees Celsius. A Merino Liner can be used with both pairs of gloves and will add around 4/5 degrees Celsius of warmth.

The description says Pittards leather palm but these appear to be suede in the shops. Are the new ones still padded to the same degree as the previous leather version?

Asked by: stormgod
Hi, the new design of these gloves do use a soft leather to improve durability. They are still padded to the same degree.

Hi, this new version of the gloves (2016) seems to use suede or a similar material for the palms, not normal leather like the previous version — I was wondering if they work on smartphone screens? Thank you.

Asked by: iancu
Hi, the new version of these gloves do work with smartphone screens.

There are different size gloves, but the sizing description says "one size fits all." Looking to get the right size for my husband who has average size hands, weighs 155lbs, 5'9". Thanks for any info you may have

Asked by: Jenny5280
Hi, under the 'Product Details' tab there is a sizing guide, which you can use to accurately gauge the correct size. If these are a present, and you think your husband has average sized hands, we would recommend you choose the medium gloves.
