The definitive technical garment for changeable conditions

When Rapha began working with Team Sky, its riders requested a wet-weather shell that protected them from the elements, but also breathed well and didn’t cause them to overheat when going flat out. The riders also wanted to be able to easily access food in foul weather. The result was the development of the Rapha Pro Team Softshell Jacket.

Following feedback from Team Sky and riders around the world, the Pro Team Softshell Jacket has been updated with Polartec’s innovative Power Shield Pro fabric, which strikes the perfect balance between protection and breathability. This is a jacket for riders who seek the highest levels of performance in wet conditions.

Zips on the cuffs and an oversized puller make the jacket easier to put on – and remove – with gloved hands. On warmer days the jacket can be worn directly over a Base Layer, acting as a weather-resistant jersey. When the temperature plummets, pair with a Base Layer and Pro Team Jersey. The fit is in line with the Pro Team collection, with a slim and close fit suited to a low riding position.

The fabric

Polartec’s Power Shield Pro is a three-layer laminate. On the outside layer, a smooth and durable hydrophobic surface sheds water easily. Inside, a knitted surface contains a ‘micro-grid’ structure, a network of small squares to increase the fabric’s ability to wick sweat and disperse it quickly. Sandwiched between the two, the highly breathable Power Shield Pro membrane blocks 99% of the wind, while still allowing air and moisture out. The result is a jacket that is breathable, highly water resistant and insulating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from utterly brilliant So good I bought one in black and one in chartreuse. Breathes well and good for winter and spring cool, windy and showery weather with base layers as required. Fit is somewhere between classic and PT race fit. Arms are very long so they can fit over glove cuffs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect autumn spring & winter jacket A must have jacket. Great outer fabric, super fit and good features. High neck to keep out the wind, zipped chuffs and large rear pockets. Suits British weather in autumn winter and spring time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket that I highly recommend Bought the jacket about six weeks ago and been dying to test it out on the road. Took it out on March 23 in Southern Alberta, Canada. Day started out decent, 3 degrees centigrade but took too a turn of the worse and dropped to -1. Wearing the jacket and a base layer and my core and arms stayed dry and warm the entire whole 2 hours on the bike. Sizing chart had me in a small so I bumped up to a medium. Have to do an exchange for a large which is a better fit in the core but slightly long in the arms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for winter conditions I recently bought this jacket to help myself enjoy my first German winter. When paired with a mid-weight merino base layer I am perfectly warm in 4-5-degree C weather (note: I haven't tried it in colder weather, but I trust with the right base layer it would be just as warm). The material and construction quality is without a doubt top of class, as expected from Rapha. Fits like a glove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Went for my 1st ride today in the rain, not hard but lasted for about an hour. It kept me dry and as long as I shook my arms the water did bead off which was quiet impressive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bad weather jacket. I already had a similar winter jacket when I bought this one around one month ago. The selling point for me was the zips on the sleeves which allow the cuffs of thick winter gloves can be accommodated without bunching. Not exactly a major hardship, but something that was happening with my original jacket. Another reason was that it looked pretty stylish on the website. Once the jacket arrived and I started using it, I've come to appreciate it more and more. The cut is aero so there is no excess material to flap in the wind, the 3 main pockets are deep and roomy, the zippered key/money pocket is very practical, the zips are chunky and don't snag, the styling has received compliments from even the least style conscious members of my cycling clubs, but best of all, the jacket is keeping out the British winter. Yesterday I went for a 75 mile ride in wet, cold and windy conditions on the roads of Northumberland. The conditions were that bad only 2 other club members turned out. I was wearing the jacket over a thin long-sleeved merino top and synthetic short-sleeved base layer. At no point on that ride was I cold - the hail, wind and rain were kept at bay at all times. Once home, all of my riding gear was covered with muddy road spray, so everything got thrown straight in the washing machine, including the jacket. I've worn the jacket again today for a shorter ride in similar conditions to yesterday. It looks as good as new and still kept me warm and dry. I'm confident this jacket will be the cornerstone of my winter riding wardrobe for a good few years. An all round good investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional I've had the product for just over a month and ridden in it through snow, (heavy) rain and wind. It's a great garment. When riding in heavy driving rain and through gusty weather it keeps your core warm, making tough conditions more than bearable. Paired with a pod base layer it'll keep you warm. I've regularly tested it through conditions around the freezing mark. The pockets are deep and hold all the essentials you'll want to carry while access is easy when reaching for items, such as food. In short, it's a brilliant piece of kit, well designed, comfortable and it'll keep you dry and warm through most winter conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Nice Jacket! Impressive jacket. Waterproof and totally windproof which was more than I'd expected. Surprisingly warm, even on 0° rides it wasn't cold just worn with a base layer. Feels a bit odd size-wise when you try it on but once you sit on the bike wearing it, it fits perfectly.

Hi I wear XL in your T-shirts and find they fit perfectly... Large does not fit my chest. Would you advise XL or XXL in the Pro Team Softshell Jacket? Also I'm 34/35 waist... Size for Wiggins core bid shorts?

Asked by: Kce983
Hi, we recommend you also choose an x-large in this jacket, although it will have a closer fit than your T-Shirts. In terms of the shorts, we suggest you go for large. As always, we do have a free 90 day returns policy if needed.

I have the classic winter jacket and wondered how the sizing compares. I am a small in the classic and am aware that the pro-team is a little closer fitting so was wondering if i should perhaps size up to a medium. Many thanks.

I'm debating between this and the Pro Team Training jacket, what are the main differences between them and ways in which they will perform? Which of the two is most breathable, most waterproof and suitable for lower outdoor temperature riding conditions?

Asked by: onitsukaluv
Hi, both these jackets are intended for autumn/ winter/ spring use and have a close fit. However, the Pro Team Softshell is highly water resistant and will perform better on a wet ride whilst the Pro Team Training Jacket is more breathable, making it a natural choice on rides in cold/mild and dry/changeable conditions.

Whats the temeprature range of the jacket?

Asked by: PeterKokol
Hi, it is hard to adivse an exact temperature range as it will depend on your own temperature regulation and exertion level. However, this jacket is designed for riding in wet conditions in temperatures from around 2/3-12 degrees celsius. It can be used in colder conditions if worn with a warm base layer or combined with a Pro Team Jersey.
