“Day seven, the last day of Cycle Oregon, and still no flats. There are five of us and we’ve been averaging 100 miles a day now for a week. We are in the west of the west too, riding chip seal and c-level roads riddled with potholes and scarring from the hard winter months. Climbing roads not much wider than path, racing down narrow lanes older and harder and more ornery than Paul Bunyan, past hundreds of other cyclists and their myriad of handling abilities. Up to and around Crater Lake, back and forth over the Cascades. Through desert heat and sweltering tarmac, into the clouds spilling over with rain and sleet and cold wetness. Seven days, five bikes, near 4,500 miles of every imaginable surface and teary-eyed corners and still no flats."
