Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Backback I've had my original Rapha Backpack (white stripe) for 2 1/2 years now - this purchase was actually a present for my brother-in-law. It's been flawless over that time, serving as my everyday laptop bag, and on week-ends as the adventure travel bag. It's the perfect size for just about everything, and performs equally well as my carry-on bag when travelling. Not too many pockets, just enough space for everything. The expandable "shoe" section adds a great amount of extra space when needed, and the included rain cover has been put to use more often than I'd care to admit here in London. Wonderfully durable, understated, and versatile.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great daily backpack I am thrilled with quality and style of this backpack. I bet people who conceived it are commuting daily. I love it and use it daily. I have two comments for Rapha to consider: - there should be a way to hide or disconnect waist belt, a feature often not needed in city commuting, it really hurts to cut it off from the new beatiful backpack; - product pictures on your site really suck in this backpack case... c'mon, I know you can do better than this! Show interior and pockets, do not make me dig through Google to find out how does it look inside!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Updates are appreciated, but why remove features? I owned the version of the backpack from two years ago, but zippers and stitching began to break. Rapha replaced the item fully, but with the updated version of the backpack. I appreciate the reinforced zippers and I still love the size and utility of the bag, but I just wonder why the removed a few features. First, I wish the white leather stripe was still an option versus the reflective material. It doesn't seem as stylish or luxurious as the previous. Also, the removed the small key pocket on the side of the bag which I used daily previously. All in all, a wonder product that is the perfect size for my daily commute and I will continue to buy Rapha packs in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits really well I bought the pack to replace a cheap small rucksack I've been using to commute for years. I carry a few tools, cable/lock and clothing (pants and shirt. I've not tried carrying a laptop in it yet). It feels great to wear and the way it unzips enables you to place the clothing in the bag rather than stuff it in, I carry the tools and lock in the outside pockets, clothes on the inside. There are two main compartments inside each with a pocket. An outer zip allows further depth to the bag if needed, and need it you may do as there isn't a great load of capacity but very neat. Ideal for my commute. Wouldn't have paid full price good as it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably the best commuting bag in the world. In an attempt to keep my "MAMIL" body less offensive than it already is to the public I cycle to and from work. I do need to carry a plethora of work things from cloths, shoes, computer (and cables) pens and keys, the usual. I did find a curriers bag, which I thought was the gold standard. This has now yesterday's man. Radha has made this the case. This bag is now the gold standard. I thought the courier bag was going to be impossible to beat, I was wrong. The attention to detail, two external front pockets, the inner secure pockets for floatsome we all have to have but need, the back system, the ergonomic and easy use straps. Well done Rapha. This is the new boy on the block.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as it used to be. This is my third of these backpacks, I've had it replaced twice due to issues with the zips failing. The fact that it has been replaced with an apology has more than made up for the issue. The reason for the three star rating is mainly due to the fact that this latest version of the bag doesn't feel as well made as the previous versions. The key pocket which was one of my favourite features has been removed and the fabric has been replaced with a more basic material and the leather strip is no longer leather. It may be that these changes are improvements, time will tell, but my first impression was disappointment. All this aside it's still a great backpack. Just not as good as it was.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essentials and Then Some Let me preface this with the fact that this buy came from a comparison of 25+ different backpacks - from Vancouver outdoors brands to Parisian boutiques. I had an exhaustive list of requirements that knocked most out of consideration. A compact, ergonomic, weatherproof, breathable bag that's actually attractive is harder to come by than you think. The bag market is apparently split down the middle. Either you have an ugly, gargantuan bag that can survive a natural disaster - or something you want to bring to the office and then leave at the office because it's raining outside. Rapha's backpack is a true outlier in this regard. It's made with consideration to the back of the rider - both keeping a streamlined profile but allowing airflow and venting. The design is rightfully minimal, but speaks volumes in its materials - Cordura and an integrated reflective weave. A thoughtful interior - both in the patterned lining, the surprisingly expansive storage space , the hidden hi-vis raincover. You can tell Rapha made a bag with full consideration towards what they really need for their day-to-day ride. Even better you can trust it can handle any scenario and confidence like that makes you want to ride even more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a great sack Honestly after reading the reviews, I was half expecting this back pack to be made of angel hair or something. I guess it got my hopes up and I was a little underwhelmed when it actually came through. First I'll talk of some cons, and then I will provide the advice I would've like to have read on here before purchasing: Couple of negatives: - I really like the grab handle at the top of the bag, but I found this digs into the back of my neck when I'm on my bike. I had to relax the straps to take the pressure off, but I still feel it. My last bag had large roof zip which didn't give me any problems, and this is just a strap. No I don't have a fat neck. - There is a good hidden storage compartment to hide the waist strap, but you have to cram it in there and I can feel it poking my back a little. It's a good design but just something to be wary of. - There are two external zips that can fit your wallet, keys etc which are on the back of the pack. Whilst they have relatively good room in them, they've difficult to access without taking the bag off your back and stabilizing it on a surface. I've found this inconvenient, as I like to use the little side pockets you find on other bags for quick access for keys, access cards etc when going between work. This is problem is going to get worse in the summer, when I'm not wearing a jacket. Perhaps a little material hook on the side would be useful to all for a key ring or extension cable etc. Whats good: - The shoe compartment is really useful. It keeps the rest of the bag contents away from the grubby bottom of your shoes and you can squeeze them in nicely, meaning they feel nice and secure. - It's a slimline sack, which makes it nice and discreet if you need to carry it around at the pub after work without looking like you have the kitchen sink with you - It feels nice and secure on the back and fits well with the curvature of the shoulders and back. - Everything feels exceptional in quality, durable, long lasting etc. ---- What would I like to have known before buying: Probably like many others, I was torn between this and the larger rucksack so heres a little guide. I typically carry items such as the following: 15 inch MacBook pro, spare inner tube, repair kit, waterproof over trousers, gym shorts+tshirt+socks, deodorant and occasionally a lunch box. When the bag first turned up, I was really worried that it wouldn't be big enough. I was worried that I would spend more time trying to squeeze everything in to the bag, rather than always having the option for a little more stuff. The expansion zip is really useful, but naturally it makes the bag look bigger and less beautiful, which defies the object of this choice over the ruck sack. My thought was 'if I wanted to use the expansion zip more often than not, I've probably made the wrong choice'. When you open the bag out fully, it feels like you're not going to fit much in because its difficult to understand the backs 'true' space when fully open (and naturally there is a lack of stability when things are sitting on top of a fully open bag, rather than being 'packed' into a space). However, if you semi-close the bag and start putting things in, you realise there is a much greater space than you originally realise. On Saturday I came to the office to pick up some clothes that had been delivered, as well as my laptop. With the extension zip open, I was able to fit: My 15in MacBook pro, a light pair of shoes, repair kit, wet over-trousers, 3x long sleeve formal shirts, a 3 meter usb cable and I think there was something else which I can't remember (as well as particulars such as wallet, access card, a pen). That was packed pretty quickly but there was still a little room at the top. With more careful packing, I probably would've gotten a bit more in there, but there definitely wasn't room for a boxed bottle of champagne that somebody sent me (to give you context). I was also being careful not to overly crease the shirts. Had they been dirty or insignificant, I'm pretty sure I could've packed them in tight. I've also tested today and I can fit a 1.8L lunch box and my gym kit in with the usual items I listed at the start, WITHOUT opening the expansion area. This is good news, but I think that would be almost max cap before opening the expansion area (e.g. if I wanted to take a jacket/jumper home on a hot day, it's unlikely to fit). This could become a bit annoying if during the spring I travel with a jacket on a colder morning downhill to work, but don't require the jacket later on in the evening when its warmer and I'm going uphill. If you regularly travel with lots of gym/bike kit, laptop, books and lunch box for more than 3 miles each way, I'd recommend going for the rucksack so that you have plenty of room for your regular items, plus extra room for eventualities. If you typically travel light (e.g. laptop, couple of items of clothes and a book) and only have a short commute, I'd recommend this back pack. Overall I am happy with the back pack and think that although I worry about not being able to fit some stuff in on the odd day, this was probably the right choice considering the regularity of my back pack contents.

I am interested in this pack as well as the version with the white stripe. What are the differences between the two? Is the white stripe mostly detailing or does it provide much better night visibility?

Asked by: EPSeattle
Hi, neither stripes on the Rapha Backpack are reflective. The white and black stripe provide different color options. I hope that helps.
