The Directeur Sportif Playlist

由 Joe Hall • 18th September 2009 12:48pm • 張貼 Misc

John Herety, Directeur Sportif of the Rapha Condor team, is a big music lover and so I asked him to send me a list of some of the tunes he will be listening to in the team car at this year’s Tour of Britain. The nature of the Tour of Britain means long
transfers to and from stages, so a good soundtrack is vital. Here is the Director Sportif playlist (tank top optional).

John says: “There’s a big Americana feel to the selection, quite simply because I like it and if I’m spending that amount of time driving, it’s going to be what I want to hear.”

1. The Band – The Weight
2. Ryan Adams – Carolina Rain
3. The Felice Brothers – Frankie's Gun
4. Robbie Robertson – Soap Box Preacher
5. Slaid Cleaves – Cry
6. Creedence Clearwater Revival – Up Around The Bend
7. Conor Oberst – Eagle on a Pole
8. Fleet Foxes – Blue Ridge Mountains
9. Ryan Adams – New York, New York
10. John Mellencamp – Hurts So Good
11. Ryan Adams – Two Hearts
12. Lucinda Williams – Car Wheels On A Gravel Road
13. Drive by Truckers – Feb 14
14. The Soggy Bottom Boys – I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow
15. Little Walter – My Babe
16. Gillian Welch – Elvis Presley Blues
17. Uncle Tupelo – Orange Blossom Special
18. Elvis Presley – Baby Lets Play House

Love this playlist. Big americana fan too. If you like these check out 'the avett brothers,' 'Iron & Wine,' 'Sarah Siskind,' 'Jason Anderson,' 'Blind Pilot' - you won't be disappointed.

Cheers Jonathan. I'm personally a big fan of Gillian Welch and a band I also like are the Be Good Tanyas - if you can find their cover of Prince's Purple Rain it's really worth a listen.

Like the RA-weighting. Perhaps throw a little bit of Whiskeytown in there?

John did put some Whiskeytown on his initial list, but Last FM don't have any available to listen to… I wanted to give the people something to hear. You're right though Matthew, Whiskeytown are excellent (Ryan Adams' band I believe?). The tracks of theirs' he chose were:
'Bottom of the Glass' and 'Dancing with the Women at the Bar'.

Yeah, Whiskeytown were Adams' old band but split when he went solo I think? I have heard internet rumours that they might be reforming though…Great playlist by the way…a little Calexico and/or Lambchop could be added though!

WhiskeyTown were indeed headed up by Ryan Adams, Caitlin Cary was the other band member who went on to have success in her own right. I think I included a track from her on the playlist Joe has put up here for us, but Last FM don't have anything by her, check out Begonias by her if you can.
Will check out avett brothers,' 'Sarah Siskind,' 'Jason Anderson,'and 'Blind Pilot', Iron Wine are good as are Lambchop, gutted I'm missing the Felice Bros and The Duke and the King in concert due to race schedules. Waiting now for Monsters of Folk to be released.

Throw in some Wilco for good measure on your next trip, John!

Excellent stuff. Women at the Bar is a great track. (Though sadly I think Adams is more into BMX and skateboards.)

I was recently clutching to the lines 'Oh my sweet disposition/May you one day carry me home' from Oh My Sweet Carolina on the ascent (and then descent) of Col d'Agnes like a drowning man…

My Morning Jacket?
