For the first time at the Revolution Series we had bagpipe music and the Proclaimers at full blast over the PA. It put a huge smile on my face (even if a little stereotyping was taking place) and I almost wished I'd brought my kilt.

Field Notes: JPow looks to Worlds

By Jeremy Dunn • 24th January 2013 • Posted in Team

Jeremy Powers represented the 2012 US National Champion jersey well. So well, in fact, that he was thought by many experts and non-experts to be an even bet for a repeat performance in 2013. However, nothing is ever certain in cross racing and results played out differently on the national championship course on that cold, blustery day. Ahead of the Worlds in Louisville, Kentucky – the first time the climax to the cross calendar has been held outside the EU – I spoke to Mr. Powers about the next phase of the season.

Welsh wizard Geraint Thomas took victory on stage two of the Tour Down Under on Wednesday to move into the leader's jersey and then held on to the top spot in a tough stage around Stirling today. On Wednesday's stage the British rider attacked on the decisive Corkscrew Hill climb, and after a furious descent into the finish in Rostrevor he outsprinted fellow escapees Javier Moreno of Movistar and RadioShack-Leopard's Ben Hermans to give him a five-second lead overall.

After packing their suitcases whilst still digesting their Christmas dinner, the new generation of Rapha Condor JLT riders caught the 24-hour flight to Australia for an eight-week training camp.

However, Rapha Condor JLT’s 2013 Australian training camp is a little different.

Tour Down Under Preview

By Joe Hall • 18th January 2013 • Posted in Team

It’s remarkable to think that Team Sky, currently top of the UCI team rankings with a Tour de France winner, British and Norwegian national champions, and some of the finest riders in the world, rode its first race three years to this day. The 17th January 2010 was the opening day of the Tour Down Under, that day’s criterium serving as a showcase for the following stages. Team Sky proved they meant business by winning in immaculate style and setting the tone for the coming seasons.

With six riders representing five different countries spanning the globe, Team Rapha-FOCUS had their work cut out for them last weekend. From the United States to Switzerland, Germany and France, it should be noted that this was truly a global affair. When the dust, mud, ice and snow settled, there were new champions in the mix.

Speaking to Marco Aurelio Fontana the day before this latest installment of World Cup cross, he told me:

"Cyclocross is so much fun, but it needs more of this. To get out of Belgium. Hopefully, World Cups like this and the World Championships [in Louisville] will show that to the world. Once the Belgian riders have to travel more than 100k to the start of the race, we will see what happens."
