Rides start from the Rapha Cycle Club in Surry Hills at 6am on a Wednesday. There are plenty of people there early grabbing a quick espresso before we head off. Usually we head down to the edge of Botany Bay and back via Maroubra Beach. Sometimes there is also an option of a mystery hills ride. Pulling up at the cycle club, more espresso is consumed and people head off in their different directions to get ready for work. See you next week.
Mystery Hills Ride #1
This involved dodging potholes and speed bumps down to Rushcutters Bay on the edge of Sydney Harbour, then wound its way through the Eastern suburbs seeking out every pinch climb on offer. Things got really interesting when we hit the beaches – the bunch hopped the curb onto a winding little track through a park, ducking and weaving between branches and early morning joggers. After emerging unscathed we rode up past Bronte Beach through a road cut into the sandstone. We then turned back towards the city, a smooth snaking descent beneath giant fig trees brought the bunch to the edge of Centennial Park. Back on familiar roads the riders fell into their well drilled rhythm chatting away like old friends.
