World-Tour proven waterproof shell

On hard rides or races in changeable conditions riders need a breathable and waterproof outer shell that will protect them from the worst of the weather and won’t cause them to overheat. The Rapha Pro Team Race Cape is that garment.

This season’s updated version is made of a new performance fabric by Polartec that is both highly breathable and offers superior protection from the elements. Also new for 2016 is a small zip pocket on the left side of the jacket, for easy access to an energy bar or gel.

A favourite garment of pro racers such as WIGGINS’ Owain Doull, who says it “almost feels like a normal jersey”, the Race Cape is tailored for a close ‘Pro Team fit’ and has extra features such as zipped cuffs and fully-taped seams. The jacket packs down into a compact bundle and fits in a jersey pocket.

A dropped tail keeps road spray off of the back of your jersey, and the fabric has a slight stretch to allow the jacket to keep its shape over fully-loaded pockets.

The zip has a textured puller for easy use when wearing gloves, and the zipped cuffs make it easy to remove the jacket while on the bike, as well as providing ventilation. The cape also has a bonded strip at the elbows for you to cut around, if you prefer your waterproof short-sleeved.

Reviews:

"Rapha makes some bloody good kit and the Race Cape is a prime example. It looks great even in hard-to-pull-off fluoro yellow ('chartreuse' in Rapha-speak) and fit and comfort is superb. Designed with performance in mind - with input from Team Sky - it's snug, with a shorter front so it keeps its shape when you're on the drops. The zip has a storm flap, the cuffs are zipped, it breathes really well and is highly waterproof." - Cycling Plus, March 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent but........... I purchased this cape to replace a Rapha rain jacket that had finally given-up. I rightly replaced the rain jacket with a Gore Active jacket but didn't like its cut - too baggy. The cut of the race cape is, to me, much better. I'm 1.79 tall and weigh approx. 76kg and the medium is a snug / good fit over a medium brevet jersey. The neoprene collar is excellent at keeping water out and the zipped cuffs making getting it on / off especially with gloves on easy. The zip is easy to undo when a bit of extra ventilation is required. Here's the "but" - I ordered the chartreuse and whilst great on the visibility front I'm not sure how good it's going to look after a season or two. Bearing in-mind it's a race cape it doesn't pack down as small as the rain jacket

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless! With Strade Bianche fast-approaching, I bought this in anticipation of the heavy rain which would turn the white gravel roads into muddy rivers. And it delivered way beyond expectation in terms of waterproofing, warmth and overall comfort! The rain was falling heavily from the start, yet it simply bounced off the jacket and core temperature remained consistent. Over the gravel roads, head-to-toe caked in mud, grit and water, it remained perfectly dry and warm inside, with the fit and comfort ideal for racing and movement when climbing, sprinting and in the drops. By the end, the jacket was white and brown and barely recognisable, but had done the best job of any rain jacket I've ever ridden or raced in. My inner layers (Rapha mesh base layer and a long-sleeve jersey) were spotless and dry, after almost 5 hours in the rain. This Race Cape is truly amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Submersible! Excellent hard man's rain jacket. Completely waterproof and adds just a touch of warmth. It's thick enough that you can get it into a pocket but it takes a bit of folding. If you need something more packable the Classic or Core are your best bets, but this one will get you through any deluge. The zipper is really easy to operate and the velcro is great for closing it until you can operate the zipper. They are a very trim fit with no stretch, classic Rapha cut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit Great fit in all the right places, the jacket doesn't ride up and it is easy to un zip and then zip up the jacket with one hand, unlike other jackets. The quality of the fabric is also fantastic and the neoprene around the cuffs and neck make it feel warm and comfortable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse jacket I bought the race cape just for wet rides but have used it more for a windshell in cold temps. It works beautifully in all conditions. I wear a merino base layer, Brevet long sleeve jersey and the race cape and I am comfy down to 30 degrees. The cut is ideal -- the sleeves are an ideal length and the cuff zips work well with long gloves. I wish Rapha would standardize the sleeve length. This jacket has perfect sleeve length but my Brevet jersey is too short in the sleeves. The slim cut of the race cap pretty much eliminates wind flapping and is extremely comfortable when in a riding position. Would highly recommend for all conditions.

Hi, I take a S in the brevet, classic ss jersey and long sleeve pro team but take a M in pro team ss jersey, I am 174cm, 70kg ave with 95cm chest. The S in the race cape is good in length & sleeves but tight in chest and M is good in chest - help pls.

Asked by: Mbike
The Pro Team Range will always have a more tighter fit then the more relaxed range of the Brevet garments and as such the Race Caps can feel a more tighter fit. If this is too restrictive you can always go for a size up on the Race Cape. We do have a 90 day returns policy if the garment does not meet you personal specifications.

I currently wear a pro team rain gilet in size medium (gives space for jersey pockets).  I wear a pro team aero jersey in medium for my arm size. I can also fit the small pro team gilet for a snug pro fit.  Would you recommend small for the race cape?

Asked by: Albie
The Race Cape in Medium should be a good fit based upon what you have described.

Hi. How's the size on this jacket compared to the wind jacket? I wear a large in the wind jacket. I'm 184cm and 80kg fairly athletic build. And my body measures says that i should go for a medium. I'm afraid that's going to be tight. What do you think?

Asked by: Martinsen
Hi, the Pro Team Race Cape has a closer fit, race ready cut compared to the Wind Jacket. It can be recommended to try the size Large. Should you need to exchange, we have a 90 days return period.

Hi I wear a large brevet jersey, what size in this please?

Asked by: Shorn
Hi, this jacket does have a closer, race ready fit but we generally recommend you order the same size. If your Brevet Jersey is already very tight, you may want to size up one size for the Pro Team Race Cape.

Hi, Would this be suitable as a packable rain jacket for use in the summer with s/sleeves or is it more for an outer layer in winter/colder months? Cheers.

Asked by: Martin H
Hi, this jacket is designed to be used in all seasons in the event of rain. It is not an insulating jacket for cold weather but rather a lightweight and packable rain shell.
