Lightweight, packable and water-resistant insulation

Long-distance riders often encounter a wide range of conditions, so a lightweight layer that is both warm and packable is essential. The Insulated Brevet Gilet provides exceptional warmth, while highly breathable Polartec Alpha insulation ensures you won’t overheat during harder efforts.

The gilet features reflective detailing for visibility, and a water-shedding DWR (durable water repellent) coating for added protection in rain showers. Thanks to the hydrophobic properties of the Polartec Alpha insulation, the gilet wont saturate in the same way that natural down insulation will, and is quick drying. Mesh side panels stretch to fit over full pockets and a zip placket keeps out the wind, and when not in use, the gilet rolls into an elasticated loop at the neck to stay tightly stored. Please note that the two-way zip included on this product at launch has been replaced by a standard zip.

Karen Whittier, product manager for insulation at Polartec, explains the science behind Polartec Alpha:

Polartec Alpha was engineered as an active insulation to regulate core body temperatures during both dynamic and static activities. This ‘adaptive’ breathability helps eliminate the need for shedding or adding layers while on the move, making it ideal for cycling.

By keeping moisture vapour moving freely through the fabric, it increases overall air exchange and drastically speeds up dry times, providing thermal regulated comfort. Polartec Alpha is also highly compressible, made with a stable core… that prevents ‘fibre migration’ to keep a uniform consistency, even after heavy wear and repeated laundering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Gilet Had my eye on this one for a while, went for a S, usually a woman's S/M depending on cut. The colours on the Blue gilet are great and not too bulky, all ready for a cooler day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase At first I was skeptical about buying an insulates gilet but it has proved to be an invaluable piece of kit for my trip to the Alps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential kit... Having worn this gilet on every early morning outings since the temperature dropped to 10 or below this month, I have to say it is an essential kit for every cyclist confronting a cold and windy morning. The fabric is really soft, quick drying and light. In addition, the zipper is smooth and easy to move. I love it and won't go out without it....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Features Another awesome piece of cycling attire from Rapha. Not too much insulation that you're cooking just enough to keep you warm on cold rides and packs away nicely into jersey pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A perfect friend for unstable Norwegian conditions Just bought this and fell in love with it instantly. Perfect for our spring conditions. Light, perfect fit, looks good and is both warm enough to keep you comfy on the descents and thin enough to not overheat you on the way up. At least if you're not pushing to hard. My advice: if you ever ride in conditions between 5 and 15 Celsius: buy it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very versatile gilet This is a very comfortable and breathable gilet that I use in both cool and slightly warm conditions - particularly useful when it's windy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flexible bit of kit I probably pack this gilet this on more rides than any other piece of kit. Really versatile, have even worn it below another top as an extra layer.

The medium in the pro range is perfect for me, I have small for the city range and borderline small-medium for the classic range. Which size do you recommend for this gilet?

Asked by: Txema
The Medium fit should be a good fit. This Garment has a more relaxed fitting then the Pro Team Range and is more in line wit the Classic Range.

Hi, I'm looking for a gilet to accompany a lightweight jersey when cycling early morning in spring when temps are about 10-15 degrees- would you suggest insulated or standard gilet?

Asked by: Nick101
As we all regulate temperature differently it is hard to advice on the temperature range for individuals and differing exertion levels will also affect its properties. For cooler temperatures we would certainly recommend the insulated Gilet as it does provide extra protection from the outside elements.

If worn in heavy rain, will the insulation still provide warmth?

Asked by: Bugs
Hi, this gilet is not intended for use as an outer layer in heavy rain. It is water-resistant and Polartec Alpha is one of the quickest drying insulation materials available.

I have a brevet ladies windstopper jacket size med which is a perfect fit . What size would I need in the brevet insulated gilet?

Asked by: Helen 51
Hi, this gilet has a snug fit but this is not a women's specific product and so you may need to size down one size. As always, we do have a free 90 day returns policy if needed.

How does the brevet insulated gilet compare to the woman's rapha gilet in terms of fit in the hip and waist? As far as chest measure a medium insulated gilet is apparently equal to a large woman's. Just want to make sure I get sizing correct.

Asked by: lady_colnago
Hi, the Brevet Insulated Gilet has a straighter fit that does not come in as much at the waist and out at the hips like the Women's Rapha Gilet.

Does this vest still have the two way zip that has caused issues on other gilets such as the pro team lightweight?

Asked by: Gavin929
Hi, this gilet has a one way zip.

How does the insulation compare to Primaloft when it comes to water resistence? And how water resistant is the outer fabric/seems?

Asked by: AC84
Hi, this insulation has better moisture transfer and is faster drying than Primaloft. The outer fabric is wind, but not water resistant. However, it does have a DWR finish to provide a degree of water resistance. Polartec Alpha has great breath ability, and this gilet's functionality would be defeated by the use of a laminate waterproof fabric.
