Double Tour à Eivissa

By Guest Author • 30th August 2012 • Posted in Rides

Ibiza, magical island. Unbridled destination. Unconditional permissiveness. Summer Carnival. Everyone, at some point, plays at being someone who she/he is not. Fallacy! And that is the way one finds and loves Ibiza. And the tourist masked in black-rimmed glasses and a scarecrow hat misses the island’s magic and gets tipsy on artificial beans and mechanically piped sounds. Welcome to the chimeric Eivissa.

The Chris King Gourmet Century

By Jeremy Dunn • 17th August 2012 • Posted in Rides

We had been hearing of the 2012 Chris King Gourmet Century for months before it happened. Jason French, one of the Chefs involved had hitched a ride with us down to this year's NAHBS and was more than hungry to discuss his plans for the event. A few weeks ago the weather could not have been finer to celebrate the combining of good food and great roads in the Pacific Northwest. No matter how you slice it, bake it, or purée it (and put small slices of salmon on top), this event came together to celebrate all that is delicious in the handsome dining hall within the Chris King Factory - complete with factory tours while you wait for your food.

Discover a hidden side of Hamburg and join our Warm Up Ride the day before the 2012 Vattenfall Cyclassics.

Come and find us on the Jungfernstieg on Saturday 18.08.2012 at 9:00am at the Rapha/Pasculli/Veloskop booth. You can't miss it.

Kick things off with an espresso before departure, then cruise along the Hafencity before diving down into the old Elb-tunnel. After surfacing on the other side, we will ride out to the Eichenbaumsee, then across the harbour back to the Jungfernstieg. A scenic 60km loop off the beaten track that will take a good two hours to complete – making it a relaxed start to your weekend.

Lunch Ride: Sram

By Jeremy Dunn • 8th August 2012 • Posted in Rides

The city of Chicago has a sprawl that goes on, seemingly forever. Which is why, when faced with the prospect of a short lunch ride from SRAM’s headquarters, the talk instantly turns to the lakefront. Next to the bright blue Lake Michigan shore runs a path that extends well into the south side of the city. Along the way, it offers up a cross-section of the people that inhabit this city. Everyone you could possibly imagine living here, in the third largest city in the US, can be spotted on this path. Picnicking families sit next to beefed up volleyball players, aging sunbathers tan their leathery skin, while the throttles belonging to the various motorcycle tribes are noisily tested. Children scamper left to right across the path, kicking various shapes of ball between each other. The overall effect, at least on a rapidly moving cyclist, is one that induces extreme alertness.

The Time Lord

After an increasingly pressurised build-up, at last it arrived: Wiggo Wednesday. Tension had ratcheted as Team GB failed to secure their first gold after inflexible tactics and a lack of cooperation from other teams denied Mark Cavendish in Saturday's hyped-up road race. With the expectant hopes of a nation resting on his lithe shoulders, one would expect the sideburned-one to be understandably stressed. However, all indications suggested that Wiggins was settling down for another round of what he does best, and has done best all season.

Group Ride: the MCC & University Bicycles

By Jeremy Dunn • 5th July 2012 • Posted in Rides

The Mobile Cycle Club spent a good amount of time in Colorado earlier this summer. The Iron Horse Classic in Durango was initially the centerpiece for their stay and the good people of that small town did wonders at welcoming Ben and Ryan into the fold. However, with that elevated town behind them (it sits somewhere around 10,000 ft.) they headed toward nearby Boulder. The riding in and around Boulder, if you have not noticed the sheer number of professional athletes who keep close proximity, is ideal at nearly any time of the year. Every resident of this small mountain town has no problem sharing their town's worst kept secret — that Boulder gets something close to 300 days of sunshine per year — a fact that was no more apparent than on our morning rides with University Bicycles.

Group Ride: the MCC & Bike Effect

By Jeremy Dunn • 27th June 2012 • Posted in Rides

Please check the schedule for the Rapha Mobile Cycle Club to see if they will be in your area soon. After a recent stop in New Hampshire for the NE Rapha Gentlemen's Race, they are now heading directly to New York City (before returning to the Midwest). The MCC has been the hub for many rides — morning rides, afternoon rides and especially Lunch Rides, dropping in on our friends and Retail Partners who have helped make them awesome. Rapha is fortunate to have superb retailers in North America and Bike Effect is a fantastic shop located in Santa Monica. Though they have not been there for too long they have had great impact on those who live in their area; offering not only exceptional goods and services, but also the chance to participate in some amazing shop sponsored riding.
