Over the last 24 years, Ride the Rockies has cemented itself firmly into the culture, history, and conscious of American Bicycling Touring.
In 1986 a little over 1,500 people ventured from around the country to Colorado to take part in a 7 day, 300 mile cross-state tour. A tour that included some of the highest passes, most spectacular terrain, and the thinnest air you can ride through in America.
For 2010 we, the Continental, were excited to participate in the 25th anniversary of Ride the Rockies. We were even more excited when Chandler Smith (ride director) told us that this year was going to be the longest and most challenging 7 day tour they've crafted yet.
Chandler was right, we came back with 580 miles in our legs and over 40,000 feet of climbing in our lungs. And in addition to those grand stats, we came back with stories, new found friends, fitness, inspiration, and an understanding of Colorado that you'd never get from touring the state in the car.
Ride the Rockies is one off the outstanding American cycling events that we, the Continental, would hope everyone does at least once in their lifetimes. It really is that good.
