Super fine merino cycling base layer

The latest edition to the Rapha base layer range is made from an even lighter, finer merino than Rapha’s regular base layers. Ideal for spring and summer riding, the yarn of the V-neck is beautiful to the touch and transfers moisture away from the skin superbly. The base layer’s V-cut neck makes it ideal to be worn with buttoned shirts for a smarter appearance, perfect for the city bike rider.

Merino wool is naturally anti-bacterial, odour resistant and itch free. The V-Neck Base Layer has flatlock stitching so the seams won’t chafe and the seams are positioned behind the shoulders to avoid bag straps rubbing while cycling. The base layer is close fitting and cut longer at the back for a better fit on the bike.

NB: Unfortunately, due to its fine merino construction, the V-Neck Base Layer is unable to be repaired by our Repair Service.

"if the v-neck is worn as prescribed, it will be under the polo or long-sleeve shirt in more formal scenarios than that of a sprinting peloton. this likely has a pile to do with sartorial elegance when worn with the forthcoming tweed jacket, or perhaps under a john herety tank-top. the quality of rapha's merino baselayers has, so far as i'm aware, never been called into question; i've worn them for many a long year and you won't hear any complaints from me. this version seems just a shade thinner than their regular crew-neck baselayers, and definitely a lot thinner than their merino crew-neck (which is winter specific anyway), but i'm afraid i was unable to detect any reduction in warmth throughout my various modes d'emploi."
"While I love cycling specific clothes that look good on or off the bike, things that facilitate movement and comfort while being active throughout the day, I hate to have something so precious that you are afraid to do anything in it. Despite my fears, after about 6 months of heavy use, they are holding up just fine."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indispensable. The v-neck baselayer is among my favorite pieces of clothing, which is odd to say for an undershirt. I have nearly every color (and buy more when my size is available) and I wear them under my dress shirts to work from October through April to survive the chilly northeast winters. The fit, the fabric, the warmth and overall comfort make it the best undershirt I've ever had, on the bike or otherwise. The only thing I would improve upon is Rapha's ability to have more in stock so I could get the rest of the colors in a size Medium. Give me more!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The premium undershirt I bought this on a hunch; I love all the stuff we already know about merino, but this allows me to take it into the office. The moisture and odor control is as you should expect, and the weight is so thin it is the perfect undershirt. I am a self diagnosed Merino addict so take the next statement with a grain of salt; but I have no interest in having any other fabric on any of my skin that might sweat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous- even for women! This was a replacement order as I shredded the 5 year old predecessor in a bike adventure. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. It is so comfortable and breathable that I wear it as a base layer for cycling in winter and for skiing. In the summer I wear it to the gym and for cycling on colder (most) days. I like darker colours in this fabric, so I chose this from the men's range. I have the cream and pink ones which are fine as base layers but quite translucent. I am a size 16 and the L is comfortable for me. I will buy more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So hello to my new best friend! I'm 195cms tall. wear XL Club and Classic jersey more for length. (large is a bit short, but fits fine elsewhere.) I find the Medium Merino base layers fit fine for a snug fit under the jersey. The length is fine as it tucks into bibs perfectly. I like it snug so there is no bunching or moving of the material. I have only ridden in the top during Autumn and its awesome. When the weather is 15 to 20 degrees, and a jacket is too warm, but a jersey isn't enough, this is perfect. The v-neck works a treat when you need to unzip to cool off slightly,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High-quality merino This is my first Rapha purchase and, overall, I'm very happy with it. Excellent quality merino but the best part is the fit. This is a very well cut garment for the more athletic physique. If the v-neck was a little less deep, it would be perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Supreme Quality I've bought a number of these in different colours over the last few years. They wash well, have not lost their colour and feel soft Great materials and design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A perfect fit in and out of the saddle So soft, so stylish...I already own two of these and would buy them in every color if i could. Feels great under a sweater or dress shirt, supplying just the right amount of warm. And on cold mornings, nothing works better under my jersey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Colour not as expected Bought the Blue t-shirt (twice as thought mistake first time) but it's definitely Navy not the same lighter mid-blue shown in the photos. I've kept it as the fit is lovely and the t-shirt really is great. I wear this for commuting rides with or without a jacket and then simply throw on a shirt once at the office. However it's just as good worn on its own off the bike with jeans. But colour is simply not that shown on the website.

Hi, If I am a size XS in Rapha cycling jerseys, I was wondering if the XS or XXS will be a better fit. Thank you

Asked by: zjcz
Hi, size XS should be suitable. However, please do refer to our size guide for a more accurate measurement. We have a 90 days returns policy should you wish to exchange the garment for an alternative size.
